error unsupported sector size 4096 when doing restore using recovery media disk

Thread needs solution

PC: HP ZBook with Samsung 850 PRO SSD. Windows 7 Enterprise.

I installed a trial version of True Image 2016; did a complete disk backup to a USB drive; created recovery media boot disk; booted from the boot disk; and tried to recover a file.

When the Linux system is coming up, I saw an "Error unsupported sector size 4096"

When I tried to recover a file, the recovery failed.

Does TI 2016 not support recovery to an SSD with 4096 sector size?

4096 was the default sector size when I formatted the SSD.....

Thanks for you help...I want to be sure I can actually recover a disk/file before I purchase TI 2016.

OK, so I just ran msinfo32.exe and it says my SSDs have 512 bytes/sector; but my Seagate 4TB USB portable hard drive with the backup has 4096 bytes/sector.

Is that is what is causing the error?

And does that explain why my file recovery fails?

Thanks....(confused)

Windows will sometimes have a translation mechanism whereby a 4096 B/s drive is reported in Windows as 512 B/s.

What exactly was the failure message you got?

It is possible the two different sizes are the problem, I vaguely recall a report about this in the beta forum.

I got the same error message when I ran the Linux rescue media. The PC is running Win 10 Pro 64.

My suspicion is that it is something to do with using a DVD rather than CD (the image will not write to CD as it is too large - at lest the one for ATI 2016 Cloud. I had to make the me the recovery media from within Acronis 2016 Cloud.

I will check the recovery media for ATI 2016 (non-cloud) and see if I get the same error.
