Error when using clone utility: Destination drive not recognized

I am trying to clone my p.c. "basic" harddrive with the clone utility. I get the error: "you have only one drive. This program is designed to work with 2 or more disk drives". My p.c. recognizes the hard drive under my computer.
My destination drive is larger and I am using a USB 3.0 to sata/ide hard drive adapter. My operating system is xp professional.
