Estimated backup size is incorrect

Thread needs solution

I have ATI 2016 backing up a raid array to an attached Windows 10 Storage Spaces USB drives.  The raid array has two partitions set up as drives P: (3.5 TB) and S: (2 TB).

In the backup source dialog, when I select the raid array for backup, it shows an estimated backup size of 1.3 TB.

When I close the backup source dialog, the estimated backup size is shown as 2.2 TB.

If I start the backup, the estimated size jumps to 24.5 TB and ATI spends hours calculating the backup time.

I have run chkdsk on both drives with no issues found.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

If you're backing up the actual raid array and it is a Linux device it may backup the entire volume. How big is the total size of the raid set? What type of backup did you start with... Entire pc or disks and partitions? Check the sticky area and grab ftrpilots log viewer app too and check the logs.

Thank you for the response.

It is a windows (NTFS) raid 5 and the entire size is the two partitions (2TB + 3.5TB ~ 5.5TB).

It is not backing up the entire PC, only those two partitions.

I cleared out the backup data and started the backup.  The total was estimated at the 24.5 TB and I watched as the counter counted up to over 32TB then I stopped the back-up.

The log file is below; I trimmed the long error code lines.

Thanks again.
