Failed to check last versions of the backup

Thread needs solution

Acronis tells me via email that my backups are all fine, but today I click on "Recover files" and I get an error "Failed to check last versions of the backup."

More information about this error and solutions may be available online in the Acronis Knowledge Base.

How am I supposed to recover my files?

Same question. It's a little disturbing that there's still no information almost a month later.

I get the same error but mine is a result of trying to get Acronis to connect to a network share it has already connected to in the past and I can connect to sucessfully through windows and all other software on my machine.  Seems just unwilling to connect and this error is all I have to try and diagnose the issue.

In a week it will be 2 months with no response...disappointing to say the least.

Clay,

Network share recognition is an issue with some devices in TI 2016.  You should be able to force the application to find your device by entering the host name or IP address of the network share device in the address bar on the Source page in the GUI.  This address bar is located at the top of the Source window.

The format to use there is \\hostname\.  Once host name or IP address has been entered press the enter key and your device should appear under the Network folder in the Source directory tree.

Enchantech,

Any response to the original poster?  I can't speak for him, but my problem is not related to a network share.  I have a removable drive which I connect directly to the computer for backups.

I take it you are getting the same error as the OP?  I am not familiar with that error.  It tells me though that the application either cannot find the device where the backup is located or something of that nature has occurred.  My only suggestion would be to make sure that the device location has not changed since the backup was created such as can be caused for example when using USB attached devices and letting Windows decied what drive letter should be assigned to the device.

Thanks.  I'll have to put a PostIt somewhere with the drive letter, and make sure it's consistent.  Awkward, but workable.

I am having the same issues.  Last week I installed Acronis True Image fresh on a new Windows 10 system.

Backup says it completed successfully every night.   I see the file out there.

But, when I click on "Recover Files" button, I always get: Failed to check last versions of the backup.   Same errors other have gotten.

I am backing up to a NAS server accessible via a network drive.   I have it specified the way requested above:

\\MyNASName\Backups\MyAcronisBackups.

I see 5 very large *.TIB files in that directory.

What else to try?

K.

Katerina, welcome to these user forums.

Please download the Log File Viewer app from the link in my signature below and use this to check what messages are being posted in the log files for when you are attempting to recover files from your backup file on the NAS.

I would also recommend running a Validation for the backup task that created the backup file that your are attempting to recover files from.

Hi there

I downloaded that tool yesterday, and the log file seems to indicate that the backup ran just fine.

I just enabled the Validation step and will see what it gives me tomorrow.

Thanks,

When I clicked "Recover Files" I still get:  Failed to check last versions of the backup.

However, when I look in the log file I see:

Ehat happens if you try to double click the different inremental backup .tib files from within Windows file explorer?  Does it open up in Windows explorer like it should and let you navigate it, does it throw an error, does nothing happen at all? If you get any errors, you can try to clear the mount .tib cache...

Reebot the PC for good measure, then navigate to the hidden folder and delete the contents... then try to double click on one of those .tib files again and see what happens.

%userprofile%\appdata\local\virtualstore\programdata\acronis\trueimagehome\database

That might fix the issue.  If not, you can try to validate each individual incremetnal file (one by one) by going to the file in Windows file explorer, starting with the first created to the most recent, and make sure it validates for each one.  You can do this by right clicking and selecting "validate".  This may take some time if you have several of them to work through though.

Last, just to be sure, you don't have any other older versions of this backup with the exact same name that are stored elsewhere on the computer?  I ask because if you do and you try to validate them, it will reference the backup with teh same name that Acronis is aware of in the Windows GUI, which will not be the same files that Acronis is looking for as stored in the database for that backup task and could be causing trouble if you have this scenario.

Thanks for the info.   I have a new computer, with a new installation of the latest Acronis.  I configured and ran my first backup about 10 days ago, and everytime I have clicked on the "Recover Files" button on main screen, I get an error: "Failed to check last versions of the backup.".   (I don't need to recover a file right now, but just wanted to test it out).

Per your recommendation, I went to the directory with the TIB files, and double clicked on one of them, and that did successfully open up and I can see the files there.  That's nice!  So, it looks like I can access them that way.  (I could have sworn I tried to double click this TIB file the first day the backup ran, and Windows didn't know what to do with that file type).

So, I guess the question now is why can't I push the "Recover Files" button on the home screen.

Thanks for your help!

See if you can validate the backup first and try again. If you can double click and open a tib, it should be good. Validating may update the Acronis internal database and hopefully allow you to use the recovery option.

You can also try a test recovery to a different drive using your bootable recovery media to see how that goes.
