Failed to open data stream error
Hi,
I've recently updated from 2015 to 2016 but cannot create backups anymore. I constantly get a 'Failed to open data stream' error after the backup procedure has finished. Backup then is scheduled for a later time, but again, this backup fails with the same error message. As recommended, I removed the backup from the list and tried to add it again with 'browse for backup', but this does not work either (backup simply is not added). Looking for a solution online also does not work, because there is no information about this error available now. Support cannot be contacted by phone nor by chat. This is all very frustrating.
Please help. ATI 2015 used to work fine on the same system.
thanks
Cyana

Cyana,
Since this was a recent upgrade, did you completely remove ATI 2015 prior to installing 2016? If you did not uninstall 2015, then I recommend you uninstall 2016 and reinstall 2016. The process is covered in the link below.
https://kb.acronis.com/content/48668
Included in the link is another link to download a cleanup utility. This utility removes all acronis references in the registry. This is necessary to complete the uninstall. The instructions in the link are clear and easy to follow. You should have no problems. The link states that it is for ATI2015, but it also works for 2016.
If you did uninstall 2015, using the procedure contained in the link above, then I recommend you try a "Repair" installation. When you run the install file, you will get an option to "Repair"...

Thanks Enchantech and FtrPilot for your suggestions - a lot happened meanwhile, including a complete system crash and getting a new motherboard from Dell. Luckily, the generated backups worked despite their error messages and I could restore the boot drive so here I am again ;). What exactly is going wrong on my brand new machine is still a mystery, changing the motherboard did not fix the problem (machine fails to boot most of the time, regardless what device CD/USB/HDD/SDD), and it might well be that the Acronis error somehow reflects a deeper hardware problem. Let's see if the problem persists when the Dell is working fine again.
thanks for your advice
