Failed to recover partition onto itself because of Direct R/W error
Hi, I have a full backup of my hard disk onto an external USB disk. The hard disk has several partitions, but I only need to recover the Primary partition with the operating system (Windows 10). The backup looks fine, however, when I start the restore process from the Acronis True Image application, the computer reboots, Acronis recovery starts and I immediately get an error like
Failed to write data to disk. Failed to write to sector '-367867554' of hard disk 1.
Direct R/W operation has failed. (x590001)
Retry has no effect, if I click on cancel it goes to operation 2 of 2, deletes the partition, starts restoring sector by sector and at the end I get a black screen with lots of random lines of cryptic text and a request to enter a USB Flash Drive. However, the computer is completely frozen and when I force restart, first it tries to repair the disk and finally enters into the Windows 10 repair mode.
I've reinstalled Windows 10 from scratch already twice and tried the recovery twice with True Image 2015 and 2016, but I have always the same problem. What is this about? I'm a bit scared of trying a full disk recovery. If it fails as well I would lose all other partitions as well.
