Failure to start after W10 upgrade

Thread needs solution

I have a full version of True Image 2016. It worked on an Asus laptop without problem, until it was upgraded from W7 to W10. The upgrade went without problem, other than that Acronis would not start up. It produced a spinning 'wait' symbol for a couple of seconds, then nothing. The laptop has very little on it other than standard programs, Firefox browser etc.

I tried a repair with no improvement, then uninstalled (which completed, apparently) and rebooted and reinstalled. No change. Then uninstalled, downloaded another full copy (same build as it turned out, 6027)) and installed it. No change - it just won't start up.

I'm stumped for ideas how to fix this. The machine is hardly complex; pretty poor this won't run. Any ideas?

Set the application to run in Win 7 Compatibility mode.  A known issue with some systems that should be fixed soon.

Chris,

Although your writeup implies this, please confirm that you downloaded the cleanup utility and ran the utility as part of the uninstall.

If you did not run the cleanup utility, then you need to do another uninstall, using the process in the link above.

If you did run the cleanup utility, then my only recommendation is to try a "Chat" session.

Many thanks for the replies. I hadn't used the cleanup utility; I'd relied on the Acronis uninstall (which seemed to work fine). I have now uninstalled again and run the cleanup, rebooted and installed True Image 2016 yet again. Same result - nothing starts.

So after a lot of searching to find out how, I tried the run in compatibility mode with W7. That worked and allowed me to complete installation and enter the serial no. again (it lost all my settings of course).

Thanks for the help. You guys great. Shame that Acronis doesn't want to work properly in W10 though, at least on this laptop. Now I want to find if I can stop the paid-for Cloud icons and stuff from appearing (I don't want or need and would like them to go away!)

Chris, running the cleanup utility will remove all your backup settings as it cleans out the ProgramData folder holding these.

For the Cloud sign-in nag when you launch the application, the simplest method is to sign-in with your Acronis Account credentials after which the nag doesn't appear on each launch of the application regardless of not having purchased a subscription for Cloud - you are just linking the installed application to your Acronis Account and allowing it to also check for any updates that may be available.
