Feature request: Desktop notifications

Thread needs solution

Desktop notifications via Windows Action Center or pop-ups should be offered as a simpler alternative to setting up email notifications. I'm also not willing to turn on gmail's "Access for less secure apps" so I only find out that a backup has failed if I happen to open Acronis.

(I couldn't find another forum to submit feature requests)

I would recommend submitting your feature request via the Feedback tool in the ATIH GUI Help section as this is just a user forum whereas feedback goes to Acronis Development.

With regard to Gmail try using TLS with port 587 and not SSL, as it is the ancient nature of the SSL used by ATIH that requires the 'Access for less secure apps' and which Gmail has now stopped from working.
Note: Select TLS first then change the port number as doing it the other way just resets the port again.

Thanks for your reply. I submitted the request just now using the ATIH Feedback tool.

I tried using TLS without changing the gmail setting and got "Authentication failed." Attempting to change the gmail setting gave, via gmail's Help, "This setting is not available for accounts with 2-Step Verification enabled. Such accounts require an application-specific password for less secure apps access."

Thanks for the update.

I don't use 2-step verification on my Gmail account but then again I only use this for this one purpose of enabling notifications for Acronis tasks.  Acronis notifications will work equally well with a free Outlook.com email account or most other email providers providing they accept the TLS & port 587 settings.
