File backups fail to complete.

Thread needs solution

I've been using TIH 2016 since it was released. Until a few days ago it all worked fine. I backup my Win7 boot partition using Disk/Partitions Backup, and then do  all the partitions using File/Folder Backup, all to an exteral eSATA hard drive. The Partitions backup works fine. All of a sudden, the File/Folder backup won't finish.  I have tried it numerous times. Sometimes the files backup seems to complete and then won't validate the backup file. It looks like it is validating but the remaining time gets longer and longer. It is 250GB file backup, even them 5-6 hours ought to be long enough.  The partion backup is about 50GB and completes the whole process of backup and validate in maybe an hour. Other times, it doesn't complete the backup at all, never getting to validate.  Right now it is doing the file backup and the amount backed up is creeping up slowly with 10MB jumps and the remaining time shows almost 10 hours and is increasing at about 1 minute every 4 seconds. I'l let it go overnight but I'm not optimistic.  I almost forgot that the hard drive activity light is on 100% 0f the time.

I can't imagine what has changed to cause this behavior. Any ideas?

Oliver, please download the MVP Log Viewer tool (link in my signature below) and use this to check what messages are being written in to the log files for your backup tasks.

I would recommend doing a CHKDSK /R for each of your partitions in case the problem here is related to a file system issue, but check the logs first.
