Getting Error Message: Failed to exclusively access a backup file during consolidation

Thread needs solution

I am getting the following error message after replacing a WD NAS with a Buffalo NAS.

14    True Image    12/27/2017 10:00:57 PM    Failed to exclusively access a backup file during consolidation. Make sure the file is not opened in other applications.
15    True Image    12/27/2017 10:00:57 PM    Failed to open data stream. Try to remove the backup from the list, add it again by clicking 'Browse for backup' and recreate the backup settings.

Attached is a log file with the detailed error codes.

I did delete and recreate the backup task after replacing the NAS drive.

System is a Windows 7 Pro which hosts a database for two clients.  All apps are closed on this PC and the clients at the close of business.

I would recommend using the 'Clone settings' option for your backup task, assuming that you are running this from the Windows ATI application, as your log file name suggests, as each of your NAS locations are different even though you may have given them the same name.

When you do the clone of the settings, you will get a duplicate backup task of the same name but prefixed by (1).

Once the cloned task is present, take the option to Delete and remove the settings for the old task.  You do not need to delete the backup files for that task but should either move these to a different folder or use a different folder for the cloned task.

After the original task is removed from ATI, then you can rename the cloned task to remove the (1) prefix, then reselect the Destination location on the new NAS, ensuring that this is to an empty folder, then run this new task as per your required schedule.

Update:

My NAS had been experiencing problems.  Since it was not that old I decided to replace it with a different brand NAS.  This NAS was giving me the error:

14    True Image    12/27/2017 10:00:57 PM    Failed to exclusively access a backup file during consolidation. Make sure the file is not opened in other applications.
15    True Image    12/27/2017 10:00:57 PM    Failed to open data stream. Try to remove the backup from the list, add it again by clicking 'Browse for backup' and recreate the backup settings.

I repaired Acronis True Image 2016 but that did nothing.  I got the same error.

I decided to uninstall and reinstall Acronis TI 2016.  This solved the problem.  I don't know if Acronis corrupted the hard drive or the vice versa.  In any event, ininstalling and reinstalling Acronis TI 2016 worked.

Jim, welcome to these User Forums, and thank you for sharing your experience in this issue.  I have never heard of Acronis causing any drive to be corrupted as all it is doing is reading and writing data to the drive, with no direct access when the drive is remote / networked, so this is no different to any other application accessing the same drive.
