How to back up to an increment that isn't the last one in chain, Acronis True Image 2016

Mike, welcome to these user forums.

I am not sure that I fully understand your question here.  Acronis automatically manages the backup version chain for the backup task being performed.  If you have configured a backup task to create Incremental backups, then Acronis will add new incremental files to the version chain until you reach the defined maximum after which a new version chain will be started with a new full backup image file.

Once a backup file has been created you cannot add anything further to it, any updates will be added to the next file in the version chain.

Please clarify your original question if this isn't the answer you were looking for.

Sorry, my question was poorly presented.  I did realize I can delete the last increment in the chain via windows explorer.  I also realized I can choose which version of the chain I want to restore to.  That was unclear to me before.

As a side note, I don't not care for the overall interface of acronis or its functionality.  Seems like there could be some additional features within the interface, say, for deleting an increment, or modifiy compression level on the fly.  I used norton ghost many years, and believe their interface read much more clearly.

Thanks for your help1
