How to clone without EFI system partition?

Thread needs solution

I want to clone my J drive 2tb to a 4tb drive. The J drive is mbr and want the new drive to be gpt. When I try to clone True Image wants to create a efi partion. I don't what that and I can't find a way to do it with out it. Then I have to use a partition manager to delete the efi partition and create a new partion and then merge the two.

How do I just clone the disk without creating this usless efi partition that I have to get rid of using another program?

Scott, the definition of a clone is that it will produce an identical copy of the source disk drive on the target drive you are cloning to.

Perhaps the more relevant question here is: does your source drive have an EFI partition?  If it does, then I would assume that this is essential to allow that drive to boot correctly into Windows, as this partition contains the EFI bootloader configuration data.

If your source drive doesn't have an EFI partition but one is being created on the target drive by ATIH, then this will be because of the way in which the Acronis Rescue media is being booted, i.e. in EFI mode.

Rescue Media should always be started in the same boot mode as used by the Windows OS on the system. See webpage: Check if your PC uses UEFI or BIOS

See KB documents: 56634: Acronis True Image: Cloning Disks and 1540: Difference between Backup and Disk Clone which provide a lot more detail of the requirements for cloning, plus show that Backup & Restore can be used as an alternative to using cloning.  This may well be the best method when you need to change or exclude partitions.
