How to instal or what to do with addon file?

Thread needs solution

Hi. I thought I would try my hand at creating a rescue disk using WinPE-based media with acronis plug-in. OK it says "for advanced users only", which I ain't, but it does not put me off.

The option requires me to download two files: ADKsetup and Acronis Media add-on.
I downloaded both successfully, and I installed ADKsetup.exe successfully.

But the second file that I was required to download is named "AcronisTrueImage2016_addons.3". There is no association with files having extension ".3" and I can't figure out what to do with it. Having downloaded the file, if I go back to the acronis menu for creating a winPE-based rescue disk, it no longer prompts me to download ADKsetup, but it repeats the request that I download the Acronis Media add-on, but still does not tell me what to do with the file once downloaded.

What step am I missing, please?

Jack,

I am providing link below to the TI 2016 User Guide. Please refer to Section 11.1 page 116 and read over the next several pages. This will help guide you through the process.

http://www.acronis.com/en-us/download/docs/ati2016/userguide/

Many thanks for the link.
Para 11.1.1 (page 115) says "To use this option, you need the following components to be installed ... Acronis Media Add-on. You can download it from the Acronis website".
I agree with the final sentence. I have downloaded it. However the instructions clearly state that it needs to be not just downloaded but also installed.

I could not see any subsequent reference to this component (including installation instructions) in any of the subsequent pages.

However, what I *did* find was in 11.1.1.1 (page 116) "5. Select a destination for the media: ... USB flash drive (available only for Acronis bootable rescue media)".

So, given that I was attempting to create a WinPE-based media on a USB flash drive, I conclude that the entire exercise is a completely futile waste of time and I no longer need concern myself with how to install the downloaded Acronis Media Add-on component.

If at some future time I decide to create a bootable CD/DVD drive I may come back here to the well for assistance. In the meanwhile, thank you.

Hi,

Just change the extension from *.3 to *.exe ans you can install the add-on.
Also you have to obtain a full version of Acronis. You can not install add-on on the trial version.
