How to select the number of backups

Thread needs solution

Can anyone tell me how I can set the number of backups for my desktop system? I backup weekly doing a full backup each time. I would like to keep three (3) backups then on the fourth it would overwrite the first backup. The backup systems I have used in the past have all had this feature, I cannot figure out how to do it with the Acronis True Image 2016. Any help/information would be greatly appreciated!
Thank You

You can achieve what you desire using the scheduling feature of the application. I am including a link to the Web Help page for scheduling. Give it a good read and also have a read of Backup Scheme section in the Web Help. This should give you the answer you need. I also encourage that you have a look at Grover's True Image Guides, links on the left of this page, there are a wealth of helpful guides and tips on scheduling as well as many other topics which prove most helpful!

Here is an example (GH11) of how to set up a Custom Backup scheme for Full backups only.
This shows keeping 4 but you can set yours to 3 or whatever number you wish to retain. From a space standpoint, be sure you have enough storage space for 1 more full than your selected number as the program will not do any deletion until after the replacment has been created. In your case, with a setting of "store no more than 3", a temporary 4th would be created before the oldest full is deleted. After you have reached 3 full backups, each new full thereafter would delete the oldest full so you would always have the 3 newest full backups. Using the 'store no more.." option is an automatic cleanup setting so you do not need to do any manual deletions.

You might want to consider the setting "do not delete oldest" should you want to keep your original first full. Often times, it is your oldest backup which is the most helpful for locating individual files, etc. If you decide you want this, it would be in addition to any number you put in the "store not more than(n)".

GH11. Create Custom Full Backup Scheme w/auto cleanup....Store/Keep 4 versions (chains). Use whatever number best fits the individual needs..The name of your backup scheme needs to be custom as illustrated by GH11.

Editing or changing an existing task is not recommended. Rarely does an edited task perform to user expectations. It is usually better to start with a new task using a new non-identical task name and point to a new storage sub-folder so each task has it own storage folder/sub-folder. Old task can be stopped or deleted from the task listings.

Depending upon the type of backup scheme you wish to create, here is an example of each type. These can be set up for Disk image, or Partiton, or Files-folders backups. These example show how to set up automatic cleanup so the program will do the deletion after it reaches your set goal of how many chains to retain.

Examples of backup types (other than full) can be found at this link. Example GH12 & GH13.
