I Received Error Message that TrueImage.exe Had Quit Working

Thread needs solution

I have currently created four different system images using ATI 2016........two are done automatically via scheduling, and two are done manually. Last night when I was exploring some of the ATI options (specifically I was looking at the Validation option), a screen popped up with the error message: "TrueImage.exe has stopped working". I had the choice of notifying Microsoft or closing out the popup. Since notifying MS is never helpful, I merely closed the popup and went about my business.

Then it happened a 2nd time. All of my backups look to be OK, but needless to say I'm a little worried.

Any suggestions or ideas as to what caused this? Thanks...........

Durago, I would suggest looking in the Windows Event logs to see if anything has been logged for the TrueImage.exe application crash?

Additionally, downloading the full installer of the current version from your online account and the right clicking and "run as administrator" may prompt for the option to upgrade or repair.  If you can do either, you can give them a shot and see if that resolves the issue. I have a feeling that you recentlyh upgraded to v6571 (or it attempted to) and may not have completed correclty if this just started popping up.  UPgrading or repairing should not impact your existing backup jobs and will hopefully run correctly and resolve whatever may be causing the application crash.

@ Steve - I see nothing in the Event Logs regarding Acronis.

@Bobbo - Yes I did recently update to Build 6571.....this actually was a 2-step process since I had not installed the build released before that. But the install went just fine and I am now running 6571 on both computers.

I do not know what you mean when you say "downloading the full installer of the current version from your online account and the right clicking and "run as administrator" may prompt for the option to upgrade or repair". I went to my online account and all I see are available upgrades for Acronis Cloud (I don't want) and ATI 10 (what in the heck is this all about).

Durago, could you post a screenshot?  Did you purchase your Acronis licenses from Acronis or from another retailer or boxed version?  If you purchased from Acronis, you should see all of your versions in your online account downloads where you can download the executables of the most recent versions.  If you bought from somewhere else in a boxed package, you can register those in your account so that you can always download those installers down the road as well.

I'm going to assume "Acronis Cloud" is the current version of your download.  If you don't have the cloud subscription, the installer still works the same, you just don't have the cloud service.

See my screenshot.  Does yours shows v6571 now, like mine does?  If so, that's the manual download for ATIH 2016 install file.

Bobbo, I purchased my ATI 2016 online directly from Acronis. I did not subscribe to Acronis Cloud.

I don't get a screen that looks exactly like yours. Attached are two that I get. If I'm suppose to see something different, tell me how and I will try.

Durago, looking at your screen shots it looks like you may have bought the subscription based Acronis True Image 2016 for Cloud and that the subscription has now expired, which effectively renders the product unusable!

I would recommend contacting Acronis Support directly if you believe you had purchased the perpetual licensed ATIH 2016 version and not the cloud version.

See KB document: 56514: Acronis True Image 2016 Editions and Licensing which has the following information:

Licensing models

Type  Acronis True Image Cloud - annual subscription  Acronis True Image 2016 - perpetual license
1 machine license  1 computer (Windows or Mac) + 3 mobile devices (iOS, Android)  1 computer (Windows or Mac)
3 machines license   3 computers (Windows or Mac) + 10 mobile devices (iOS, Android)  3 computers (Windows or Mac)
5 machines license  5 computers (Windows or Mac) + 15 mobile devices (iOS, Android)  5 computers (Windows or Mac)

Perpetual license means your license is unlimited in time. Annual subscription means your license is limited for 1 year. You can renew your subscription and continue using the product.

After your Acronis True Image Cloud subscription expires, all product functionality will be blocked until further subscription renewal, however, the backed up data is still accessible:

  • For 5 days after subscription expires you can continue making backups to cloud storage.
  • During 30 days after subscription expires you can restore data from Cloud Storage. Thirty days after subscription expiration the data in cloud storage is destroyed.
  • Local backups remain available for restore.

Well Steve, thanks for the response, but you have me thoroughly confused. I did not purchase an ATI cloud subscription. I never subscribed to the Cloud although I got notices that it would soon expire (I think I got it free for 90 days but never used it).

Back in April 2016, I purchased a specual deal that Acronis was running: Purchase an upgrade on one computer (I was running an older version) and get a 2nd electronic copy for another computer FREE. So that's what I did, and I have the receipt......no mention of Cloud.

I did screw up when I was installing ATI 2016 on the 2nd computer........seems I was trying to use the same serial number on both computers. I contacted Acronis suport (via chat); he used TeamViewer to access my 2nd computer, and straightened things out.

BTW, Acronis continues to run just fine on both my computers, and after I did the update I no longer get the error message about TrueImage.exe not working.

Thanks again........
