Installation auto fills wrong serial number!

Thread needs solution

BACKGROUND:

During the installation of ti2016(&i suspect 2017), it may ask for your user id etc...or at least if online.  At this point i should say, that when this occured a few days ago, my Acronis account contained 6 unused FULL 2016 edition copies (not yet activated), 4 unused upgrade edition copies (not yet activated), 4 additional 2017 upgrade copies, again yet to be activated...not to mention a large number of ati2008 ...until today, copies that appear in my acct and are activated etc.

To continue, during the 2016 edition installation, as soon as i entered my Acronis acct data, it went online and automatically filled in a serial number! In my case it used a New Full edition serial number, while i wanted to use one of my available upgrade serial numbers.  Iy was unclear if the suto serial no. Insertion was only a SUGGESTION?

I did notice, that i was able change the serial number field, but didn't...

i've tried to explain my question to support, but well that seems like a trip to frustration.  It seems to me, that either i can just change the suggested number, or just be offline during the installstion, fill in, if an upgrade, that sn, it should ask for tge prior seisl snd when all is done, then go online..i?

I realize my situation is probably unusual...any ideas?

Robert, I would think that most replies will be educated guesses as we are users as yourself, unless one of the Acronis Support folks responds.

My understanding is that if you sign in to your Acronis account during the install process then it will try to match the product you are installing with an available serial in your account, so if you are upgrading from an earlier version, I would hope that it would recognise this and pick an upgrade serial.  The downside to this approach being that it may not be the same choice that you might make directly.

You can choose not to sign-in to your Account or to enter a different serial number, so I guess you still have control in this situation.
