Installation of TI 2016 vs Existing OEM Version on My PC

Thread needs solution

I just bought the full version of Acronis TI 2016 which I haven't installed yet. I have an existing  Western Digital (WD) OEM version of Acronis TI currently installed on my computer. I can't find any advice in the docs which states whether to just install the new, full version, disregarding the OEM version, or whether I should uninstall the existing WD version first.

Any ideas? Thanks your help and suggestions!

Dan, welcome to these user forums.

There is no hard and fast rule for this situation, but I would recommend uninstalling the WD OEM version of the product just to give you the opportunity of having a clean start here.  OEM versions are often downlevel and limited in function compared to the full Acronis products.

Acronis provide a Cleanup Tool (link in my signature below) that can be used to get a full clean install.

I would also recommend signing in to your Acronis account, assuming that you have one and have registered your ATIH 2016 serial number to it, and downloading the latest build 6571 version installer, so that you start off with the most upto date product version.

Hi Steve, and thanks for your welcome comments!

I'd agree with you that the Western Digital (WD) OEM version is downlevel and limited in function--commonly referred to as "watered down."  For example, it only allows a full backup (not incrementals), there's no provision for a time schedule, and it seems that you can only restore individual folders but not files. And that's just the beginning. That's why I bought the pay-for version. Yeah, one can't go wrong uninstalling the OEM version first. Thanks for the Cleanup Tool link--I like Revo Uninstaller, but I'll familiarize myself with the Acronis Cleanup Tool.

I did set up an Acronis account today, so I could contribute to the forum. But I haven't registered my ATIH 2016 yet, as it's on order from Amazon and will hopefully ship soon. I did download and read some of the ATIH 2016 docs. I posted my installation question just so I'd be prepared.

Again, thanks!

Dan, thanks for the feedback.

You can use Revo to uninstall the OEM product and should not need the Acronis Cleanup Tool as well.

One further comment, please be aware that you only get 30 days of direct Acronis Support from the date of purchase for your ATIH 2016, so if you do hit any significant issues in using it, contact support as soon as possible.  After 30 days, support is provided via the Knowledgebase and Forums unless you are willing to pay out $20 per incident.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the heads-up re the 30 days of direct Acronis Support from the date of purchase, for my ATIH 2016. Unfortunately, the order has already sat for three days at Amazon, and it'll probably take another 5-7 days to get to me. So I'm probably looking at only 2-3 weeks of free Acronis support, if they're strict about the meter running from the order date.

So I'll install it as soon as I get it--hopefully, I won't have any problems such that I won't have to worry about their support. Again, thanks for the heads-up! BTW, the WD OEM version installed and works perfectly.
