Installing Bootable Media to external hard drive

Thread needs solution

I am extremely surprised this is so difficult, seeing how useful it would be. I simply want to have an external hard drive that has everything I need to restore my computer. This includes being able to boot Acronis from the hard drive, without the need for a separate CD or USB drive. However, whenever I try to create bootable media, it doesn't give me the choice to put it on the external drive. I even created a FAT32 partition, but it didn't recognize that either. I could waste some time making a wonky workaround, but I would expect a product as mature as TI should be able to do this. So, how do I do it?

Rescue boot from HDD.

The article isn't for Acronis but the procedure is identical. You can do this easily with any partition manager. I did it with Diskpart just for the experience.
