Internet Connection Error

Thread needs solution

Installed Acronis TI 2016.  Successfully backed up laptop computer (entire PC) to network drive.  Several days later tried to add “files and folders” backup.  Selected “Libraries” as source to back up.  Was unable to specify Backup Destination because following error message appeared on screen:

Internet Connection Error

Your request cannot be completed because the service did not respond or could not be found.  The service might be experiencing technical difficulties or you may need to adjust your network settings.

Tried this multiple times but kept getting same error message.

Original backup (entire PC) scheduled incremental backup one week later worked successfully.

There is no internet connection problem.

Can anyone advise how to add additional backup scheme?

Alan, are you trying to modify an existing Entire PC backup to add the Libraries backup, or are you creating a new backup task here?

If you are attempting to modify the Entire PC task, then please stop.

You should be able to add a new task as an additional task in your list of tasks.  I have just done this without any issue on my Windows 10 system and was able to specify both the Source = Libraries, and the Target to be on another partition.

I am not sure why this gives an internet connection error - very strange!

I clicked on the + sign in left panel, then clicked on "files and folders", then Libraries.  I was not trying to modify Entire PC backup but trying to add new backup task.  I am backing up to hard drive on network computer.  I don't see any list of tasks so I don't know how to add new task other than what I did.

Also, the laptop is a Win 7 machine and the backup drive is on a win 10 desktop but I doubt if that makes any difference.

Thanks for your response.  Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Alan,

It sounds to me like you have a sharing permissions error on your network.  You need to have file and printer sharing enabled on both computers with Password protected sharing turned off.

Here is a link on how to enable File and Printer sharing in Windows 10:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/enable-file-and-printe…

For sharing in Windows 7 see the link below:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/file-printer-sharing-faq#1TC…

You might also need to change the Libraries folder permissions on Win 7 to allow sharing.

Alan,

Screen grabs help immensely.  Please take a screen grab just prior to selecting destination.  Then take a screen grab just after selecting destination that shows the error message.

Thanks,

I checked all sharing settings and everything seems fine.  Also it seems strange that full backup (entire PC) works but I get the error message when I try to add file backup.  I'm thinking that this may not be an Acronis issue but an OS, computer, or hardware issue.  I am attaching a screen shot of the error message.

ICS is a Windows Service that can be found in control panel.  See if it's running.  It would also be a local firewall rule issue...

Alan,

Backing up a Libraries folder in Windows 7 is a bit different than say backing up other folder/file strucures.  The reason is that the Libraries folder is only a representation of where data actually resides.  Aanother way of saying this is that the folder displays links to where the data actually is on disk.

So if you have data, say that is physically locaated on an external drive for example but that folder rests in your Libraries folder and you are attempting to backup that entire Libraries folders content without the external drive connected to the computer you of course would get an error message.  Possibly this is what is happening to you.

The error is definatley that of Windows not of True Image.

Alan,

Something else you could try is to type in the folder name in the line "Back up to:"  When you type in the name, a right carat > should appear at the end of the line.  Click on the right carat.  See the picture below.

My hope is that this is a Windows permissions issue and that clicking on the right carat will bring up a login popup window.
