knowing which backup files to retain for archive purposes

Thread needs solution

I've moved to a new computer.  I manually moved files and folders to the new computer and I think, but cannot be certain, that I have all of them.  As I look at my external hard drive, with various acronis 2016 files, I'm wondering which one or ones should I save for archival purposes.  I was using the entire pc back up option.  The first full backup is identified as:

Entire PC (name)_full_b2-s1-v2.tib

The second is identified as:

Entire PC (name)_full_b3_s1_v1.tib

thereafter, the remaining full backups follow the same format except the third is "b4", fourth is "b5" through b7.  I don't really know what I'm looking at, and all I'm trying to do here is identify a complete file that can be saved in case I missed some files.  There are any number of incremental files that follow these "full" files.  Any suggestions?

Barry, I'm not an expert- but if I understand your objective, and you want to delete some of those large backups- just save the last full backup and the incrementals associated with it. But be sure it is validated first before deleting the others. If you still have your old computer, it might be a good idea to simply do another full backup and save just that- to avoid losing any files if any of the incrementals are defective. If your external drive has a lot of unused space, it might be good to retain 2 or more full backups plus their incrementals- just to be sure.

By the way, why did you bother to accumulate 7 full backups? Two or three "versions" should be enough- then have your backup system automatically delete older versions.
