Bobbo_3C0X1 wrote:Dave, you can create a USB (flash drive / thumb drive) rescue media. Acronis can boot in UEFI or legacy mode so it should work on your system. I would recommend you use the "advanced" and WinRE option. Keep in mind this could potentially wipe the flash drive (usually not, but it could), so use one that does not have critical data on it.

If the lenovo still can't boot of of this, it is likely that you have secure boot enabled in the bios and will need to turn that off. As each make/model and bios firmware can be different, you should Google how to do that for your system and/or look for the product documentation about it online from Lenovo.
Once secure boot is disabled, then you should be able to boot any rescue media (CD or USB) without issue.
Managed to disable secure boot, now to see if I can enable boot from CD. Thank you.
Nightmare, did that, butUEFI still in action!!! So had to change something called CSM, now it says pc will boot to either Legacy or UEFI.. Is this OK??

Most likely. Use your one-time boot key (have to check your vendor to see what they use for it on that model.. it's usually F12, Esc, or F1 though) and then you should see an option for UEFI boot and legacy boot.
This KB article gives some examples, but it's different for every computer:

Legacy is MBR (master boot record). This is how all computer bios and Windows OS were used before UEFI/GPT came out a few years ago.
Most new(er) computers default to UEFI/GPT, but not all, and many will allow the use of UEFI or Legacy. However, it all depends on how the manufacturer configures the bios settings before they ship out and whether or not they lock them down so that they can or cannot be changed.
Secure boot is a feature of UEFI bios. It is extra security that prevents an unauthorized drive from being able to boot on your motherboard. Good to protect against someone who may have physical access to the system and wants to run some bootable tools against it to gain access. However, it makes using other bootable media (like Acronis rescue media) unusable unless you turn it off.
Here's a good article that explains some of the benefits of UEFI vs Legacy...
