Missing Restore Points
OS: Windows 10
ATI: 2016, bld. 6571
When I back-up my disk and then restore the same back-up, I find my system restore points are missing. This I believe is because either ATI 2016 or W10 is actually turning off the "System Protection" file which allows "Restore Points" to be made and stored.
I have just upgraded to ATI 2016. When I backed up I deleted the "System Volume Information" file from the "Exclude" files. Didn't help.
Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated.

Hi Enchantech,
Thanks much for the response.
I did read the refererence you gave me and quite honestly I am totally confused as to what may or may not be the problem.
As this certainly is not life threatening I will just live with it and enjoy my 2016.
Thanks again and have a good 'un.

Lyle, please note that the default in Windows 10 is that System Restore is OFF and you need to enable it if you want to use this protection feature. This is a change over previous versions of Windows where System Restore was enabled by default!
See: How to turn on System Restore in Windows 10 to protect against bad updates which states:
In addition, you should make sure to turn on System Restore, which many users are finding inexplicably disabled by default in Windows 10.
See also: Why and How to Enable System Restore in Windows 10 which has the following statement:
But the true beauty of System Restore, as many computer repair technicians will attest, was that it was enabled by default on all recent versions of Windows. This often made software repairs for novice users much easier, as these users didn’t even know that System Restore was enabled on their PC, silently protecting them when they made the mistake of thinking that deleting their chipset drivers was a good idea.
As we’ve recently learned, however, that changes in Windows 10.
System Restore in Windows 10
The good news first: System Restore is available and fully functional in Windows 10. As we mentioned above, however, the bad news is that this feature is turned off by default. Even worse, the interface to enable and manage System Restore is relatively hidden in the legacy Control Panel, and isn’t something that a typical user will stumble upon while browsing the new Windows 10 Settings app. That leaves users on their own to eventually discover the feature, hear about it from colleagues, or find an article like this one on the Web.

Lyle,
Ditto Steve's post. Additonally, if you wish for these Windows restore points to be included in any backups performed by True Image you will need to remove the System Volume Information entry found in the Esxclusions list in Options when creating a backup so that those restore points are included in the backup.

Thanks much, guys.
I do confirm that the System Restore is on with Restore Points included prior to backing up. Also I have deleted the
System Volume Info in exclusions.
It appears to me that W10 default may be turning it off either when backing it up or on recovery.
As you know once it is turned off there goes all restore points.
I failed to mention that I was having this same problem with ATI 2014 after I up graded to W10.
I was told on another forum that W10 was not compatible with ATI2014 so I upgraded to 2016
and have same problem. Does seem to point to a W10 problem.
Thanks again Steve & Enchantech

Lyle,
Good news, gald to have been of help to you. Yes it is a W10 issue, not a problem with the True Image product.
