Need Help with Options

Thread needs solution

I have a 3Tb drive I use for backups. I have tried using both differential and incremental backup methods. Either way, everything works for awhile and then either the drive fills up as the older versions are not deleted or I receive a disk full error even though the disk is 3/4 empty. My current settings are Differential Backup/Daily/Full every 5 days/Delete version chains older than 3 days.

I must be doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Summary: chain length = 1 full plus all diff before next full.

If I understand correctly,  there is the full followed by 4 differentials. Chain length is 5 files total.

your retention quota (all files of oldest chain which is chain1 to start) must be OLDER than 3 days (basically deleted after older than 4 days), before the auto deletion occurs. So if chain length is 5 files plus 3 days keep. Deletion will occur on the 9th daiy.

Minimum storage would be for the first 8 backips which includes two fulls and 4 diff.

If you were expecting less storage,  then older than 3 days must be reduced.

If you change to  older than 1 day, the planned deletion will occur after 1 diff followiing 2nd full, or following completion of backup #7.
