Need help in simple Cloning of Hard Drive

Thread needs solution

I have a 2 T hard drive, of which only 160 G is used.  It has my operating system, and data.  I need to clone it to a newly installed SSD,  240 G.

I can not get it done using Acronis,  without first going back to school and earning a PhD in Computer Science.   Would some nice person here please provide a helping hand?

I simply get the error message that Cloning has failed,  check the log.

I have no idea how to find or check the log.  Does not matter anyway.  I suspect I know the problem.  I am trying to clone my operating system disk,  while I am in the operating system on my machine.  I suspect there is something else I must do.  I tried reading some of the 150+ pages of the manual.  But,  sadly,  I need a PhD in Computer Science to understand what the effing #($% it says.

Is there a short version explanation ... you know ... for normal people?

Do I have to use Acronis to make some kind of boot disk to boot my machine up in Acronis,  outside the operating system,  before I can clone my main hard drive to the newly installed SSD?

How do I do that?   Where is this discussed in the manual?

I got Acronis as a download upon purchase of an ADATA SSD.  I'm not a dumb person,  really, seriously.   But,  for the life of me,  I simply can not wade through all the technical discussions of MBR, UEFI, GPT, partitioned, non-partitioned, GUID partition table ... I just need to clone one drive,  my main drive ... and I can't afford the time and cost of obtaining a PhD in Computer Science to get this done.

Please help.

Can't believe this post has been sitting here for 30 minutes and no one helps.

I am now in to hour 3 in trying to get this done.  Now I understand why SSD is something not used among normal,  common people.   It should not be so hard.

I tripped across a Acronis Webpage with a link to a YouTube Video on how to clone a hard drive.  I did find that one needs to make a boot disk.   They mention it at 25 seconds into the video.  True to form,  they do not tell you how to make a boot disk.  They flash a link near the bottom of the video,  for 2 or 3 seconds.  The link is not clickable.   So,  the video is useless.   Because,  I am still at step 1 ... how do I make a boot disk?

I went back to the website where I found the link.  I found the article on how to create a bootable disk.   The instructions are for a program that is not in the same format as the program that I downloaded to use with Windows 7.   It must be Acronis for Windows 10.   However,  I was able to figure out that I need to make an ISO.   However,  I do not know how to make an ISO.  And the article simply says .... make an ISO.

Honest to GOD.  Is there no Software Engineer or Technical Person on this earth who understands that for your product to be successful,  you MUST assume the user knows nothing.   You MUST walk them through every step of using your product.

I give up.  Acronis is Microsoft.  It is over Engineered,  Bloated,  Useless.   It is an Engineers playtoy for which one either needs gobs of time and effort to use,  or a desire to tinker and mess around forever just trying to get something done that SHOULD be basic,  and simple.

I just need to clone my hard drive.   I shouldn't have to obtain a PhD in Computer Science to be able to do it.

Shameful piece of junk software.

J willis. I'm sorry you are having problems with your OEM version of Acronis. Can you tell us what version you have by going to Help-->About?
