Need to transfer data only from complete save.........

Thread needs solution

Hey, Folks!
I saved my complete 'puter (OS included) with Acronis 2016. I want to transfer DATA FILES (Apps, docs, bookmarks, etc.) but not the OS onto the new computer (Windows 10) with Acronis 2018.
Is that possible, and if so, How??

Acronis does not allow the migration of Apps to a new computer. You can recover you data files and data partitions.

The only way to do what you want would be to do restore the entire OS to the new computer (this may cause some licencing issues). If you are using Windows 10 on the exiting system things may work out OK, but you may need to use Acronis Universal Restore to load missing drivers. I cannot remember if Universal Restore was included with all versions of ATI 2016 - definitely the case for ATI 2017 and 2018.

Both the initial restore and the Universal restore should be run from recovery media. I suggest you read the section of the manual dealing with Universal restore before undertaking the task.

Ric, the simplest method of doing what you ask is to make a separate Files & Folders backup that includes all the user data you want to transfer to a new computer.

The key in doing this type of data migration is to ensure that when you go to restore that user data to the new computer, that you do NOT restore it with the original file permissions, as you will never be able match those from the old computer, regardless of creating user profiles with the exact same names.

As Ian has already advised, you CANNOT use ATI to migrate any applications between computers as there are too many other components to the same that you would not be able to capture except by doing a full Disk & Partitions backup then restoring the whole lot back again, including the OS.

See KB 19296: Acronis products cannot be used to transfer applications to different system or upgrade OS which confirms the above statement.
