New installation, questions too basic to find.

Thread needs solution

I, very recently, completed the purchase od ATI2016. I never participated in any trial distribution. During this online purchase, I retained all information distributions produced during the purchase process. And, I have all that information neatly organized, and immediately available.

However, during that purchase process, I was presented with 3 download links(a functional copy of this panel was also emailed to me). This is the panel that identifies your Cleaverbridge #, and product key.

Additionally, the 1st DL link is titled - "Acronis True Image for Windows".

The 2nd DL link is titled - "Acronis True Image for Mac".

And the 3rd DL link is titled - "Acronis Universal Restore".

So, for Win/PC, I chose #1 and #3. Receipt of these DLs produced an .exe file of 415MB+ for #1, and an .msi file of 331MB+ for #3.

Is the .exe file of 451MB+ just merely the common installer? I'm not savvy on a .msi file, how is it used in this install?

I'm sorry for such elementary questions, but I did try hard to find the correct use of these DL'd files. I just need validation of my next step before making a bad assumption.

Thanks,

Welcome GMAK

The DL #1 "Aconis True Image for Windows" .exe is the file you would use to install the True Image 2016 application on a Windows PC.  The DL #3 "Acronis Universal Restore" .msi file is for the Universal Restore addon product which you run to create Universal Restore Media which would only be used to restore a previously created backup file from an existing PC to that same PC after a major hardware upgrade (new motherboard) of to a different PC with different hardware which normally you would not need.

The installed application once installed will allow you to create Recovery Media which is to be used to recover a backup file of your PC to your PC if needed in case of hard drive failure, Windows corruption, etc.

I encourage you to throughly read the Web-Help documentation or the in app .pdf documentation so that you can gain at least a basic understanding of the program.  Not doing so leds many to make mistakes or have misunderstandings about the application and how to use its various features.

Thank you Enchantech, for your comprehensive explanation. I was good on the #1 installer application, but stumped on the #3 .msi data. Yes, I have been reading the 161pp usr guide, FAQs, and more recently, topics in these forums. However,, this seems like a very complex application, and sometimes the most simple misunderstandings may be answered elsewhere. I was also captivated by the #2 DL file for MAC. Specifically, that it was 1/5 the size of the #1 DL for the Win/OS. Thanks again for your help.
