No Calender for backup success or failures and email notifications don't function
I notice that 2016 has no calendar like older versions of TI had that would alert you problems or successes.
I do not even know where the log file exists because I do not see it on the user interface. I should not have to hunt through files to find it if indeed it does exist.
Then comes the notifications by email. I am with Verizon and I know by heart all my port numbers, user names, and passwords. I get a ton of emails daily and answer some of them.
My SMTP server port number is 465 and my POP server port number is 995. When I list my smtp server, I do it like this "smtp.verizon.net" without quotes. The same for the pop server "pop.verizon.net" minus quotes. The encryption method used is SSL and I set this properly within TI 2016. I have tried many times to get this work. I have tried the easy mode and the less easy mode. I have yet to get an email and when I test to see if it works on the UI, it fails everytime.
I read on one of the other posts to set the smtp server port to 587 but same result.
What am I doing wrong?
PS Where is the log file?

Under server settings, you can try
outgoing.verizon.net
Port 587
Encryption SSL
If that does hot work,
try other settings except keep the ssl and 587 settings as that has been what has worked with other recent changes.
After you click the send test message, one indication of success is the checkmark beside the test message.

Thanks for the information Grover. Port 587 and the name change for the SMTP server to outgoing.verizon.net did not work. It would seem that Acronis would certainly test this function with a large provider such as Verizon.
Again Thank You

This is an excerpt from Verizon
Mail server settings
Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.verizon.net
Incoming Server Port Numbers: 995
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.verizon.net
Outgoing Server Port Numbers: 465 Why is this important?
Your Verizon Online user name
Your Verizon Online password
Make sure "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" is checked.
----------------------------------------------
You can try the above but I believe you will still need to SSl and 587.
Try severak settings until you find what works.
I am assuming that your internet provider is Verizon.
If not, change the outgoing to be your internet provider.
Part of your troubleshooting has to be to temporarily disable your anti-virus so it is disabled during your testing of sending an email via TrueImage.

Thanks again Grover for your help. The settings that you quoted me that came from Verizon works fine in any email client. I have not only tried those settings but also the 587 for the SMTP with SSL. I have tried outgoing.verizon.net with a variety or ports and SSL encoding. I have concluded it simply will not work and with what knowledge I will not waste more hours on research and testing of this issue. I skipped 2015 because of all the complaints but upgraded to 2016 while going to Windows 10.
Acronis took the calendar out of the UI which I really liked because it caught your eye when there was a problem. The notifications was a fair trade but that is worthless when trying to implement with one of the largest suppliers of internet band width. I wonder if it was even tested? I assume it is sort of a non factor because most TI users choose to not try and use it.
Again Grover
Thanks

If you have a Gmail account, that works for some. The key here is the outgoing part. YOur notifiation is never leaving your compujter.
Some peopl go online and answer their emails from the provider, but
I am assuming that you can send emails from your desktop without without being online.
I am running out of ideas.
What email program are you using to handle your outgoing email?

I have a gmail account but I have not used it. I use Mozilla Thunderbird for all emails and do not have to be in a browser in order to send or received emails.
In Gmail they offer two types of accounts, and I know nothing of the difference between the two. Perhaps a user that is successfully using gmail for notifications can add some information about type of account, server names, and ports.
Grover you have been most helpful with my problem and again - THANK YOU -

I use gmail with a POP3 account. The settings in the attached image have always worked for me.

If you try the gmail, your normal To can still be verizon or whatever your normal you want.
The only change needed is the server settings and authenication.
In Thunderbird, what is your outgoing server settings
via Thunderbird header

After spending much time on this issue, I am ready to move on without a solution. The example offered by another user for the use of the Gmail Client did not work for me and I tried pop and imap accounts in gmail. Each and every test was a failure. Prior to that I tried and tried with various solutions provided me from other uses to get ATI to send a notification email to the Thunderbird email client and tried many varieties of port numbers and server names.
Thunderbird and Gmail are popular email solutions and it is hard to believe that notifications was not tested on these clients before selling upgrades to 2016. As far as I am concerned the problem exists with ATI not being capable of sending an email dictating the success or failure of a backup job and is not the fault of email clients whether they are web based or stand alone because I have both. The calendar we used to have to catch your eye on a problem backup is gone and is missed at least by me.
To pay for software and then to spend hours messing with a supposed feature and never getting it to function does nothing but turn you away from the product. I paid for Acronis because it was rated as one of the best and that is what I wanted for my data. There are many alternatives out there and some are even free. They don't have some of the bells and whistles like Acronis but what features they do have seem to be rock solid in performance. Seems other makers of the same type of software keep refining what they have to getting it near perfect before striving for some bell and whistle.
I have no more time for the nonsense and would like to thank the users such as Grover and Nils Haughman who tried to offer suggestions and to work with me without profit.

Gifford,
If within 30 days of purchase, get help direct from Acronis via the Live Chat or direct email.
The problem you describe could be a firewall setting prohibiting the mail from being sent.

Just to add some more information to this problem I am having. I downloaded EaseUS and AOMEI Backup programs and set them up to make images. I tried the email notification in both of those programs and it worked without a hitch. Same email client, same email client information, the only chage was the backup program itself. After proving that my emal client and the two new backup prgrams worked fine in the notification, I then uninstalled them with a commericial uninstaller. I once again uninstalled ATI 2016 latest build and did a search for any files left behind and found a few and deleted them. I searched the registry for any instance of Acronis and True Image and deleted all of those.
I then installed lastest version of 2016 and the notifications will not even begin to work. Another thing I have noticed lately is that when ATI is doing a scheduled back up, there is NO icon in the tray area like it used to be. The email messaging through Acrosis is the culprit on my computer through the process of elimination. I have spent HOURS on this problem in googling and trying to get it to work.
