No system tray icon and scheduled backups don't run

Thread needs solution

I just installed True Image 2016 Home on a Windows 10 Anniversary Build desktop. After a system restart, I see that Acronis processes are running in the background, but I don't see a system tray icon. Scheduled backups don't run even though the processes are loaded, unless the the program interface is running and visible. Is this the way it is supposed to behave? Can't find any reference to this in the documentation.

Hi Bruce, what version of 2016 have you installed.  There is a new build released on October 26th, 2016 so make sure you have the latest...

As for scheduled backups not running, without any details or information to go on, my hunch is fast start/fast boot is the problem.  If the system is asleep or off during a scheduled backup, there is a setting to run at startup that can be enabled.  This will cause the sytem to run the missed backup when it starts up again.  HOWEVER, due to fast startup being enabled, the system only really goes into hibernation when you shutdown or when it sleeps and then goes into hibernation. If you reboot the system, see if the scheduled backup runs soon after that or not.  If it does, it's fast startup that is the culprit.  Your options would be to reboot more frequently to trigger the missed backups, or disable fast startup in Windows 10.  If you have an SSD, disabling fast startup should have little impact on boot times.  Personally i disable fast startup on my systems anyway as I've had issues with the system not going to sleep properly either and because I have nice, fast ssd's, I can still boot up in less than 10 seconds so I don't miss it.

The only real way to know what the issue is though is to check the Acronos service logs for clues.  You can grab FTRPilot's logviewer and see if there are any errors that point to something else (like, source or destination not found or something like that).  You can also upload a few of the most recent service logs here for additional review.

As for the system tray icon... it only shows up when a backup is actively running "by design" according to Acronis.  Manually start a backup and you should see the icon pop up while it's in progress.  If not, while your backup is running, quickly go to

Settings
Personalizaton
Taskbar
Notification Area >>> Select which icons appear on the taskbar

You should see True image and make sure the slider is set to on.  Screenshots attached.

Thanks, I'll try that.

I also just discovered that I had the 'Ask for Removable Media' option checked in the Advanced Options. I unchecked that box
