One Single Version, just replace changed files, no .tib file

Thread needs solution

I backup my computer to an external hard drive once a month and take it off site. I rotate hard drives. When I bring back a new one I only want it to add new files, replace the changed files and delete deleted files. This backup must be a real duplication of the selected dataset that can be accessed without special software (i.e. Acronis software). Just a plain old copy of the selected folders and files

I don’t see that Acronis Home 2016 has this capacity. It only does a complete new backup with the single version scheme which would take many many hours to complete. And it seem like Acronis Home 2016 isn’t capable of making a real duplication of the dataset. But instead needs to encase the backup in a .tib file.

Am I correct or is there a solution to my requirements?

Thanks

This is correct. IMO, putting data files in a single proprietary container is counter productive for several reasons:

- most consumer data files are already compressed (.exe, .zip, .pdf, .jpg, .mp3, .mp4, .mkv etc) so additional compression is not effective,

- the container becomes a single point of failure for the entire set of files,

- incremental or differential backups can fail is the linkage between the different TIB files is corrupted.

So for irreplaceable files, ie any file you cannot buy or reproduce at any cost (work of art, family pictures), you should avoid relying ONLY on TIB containers.

Alas, ATI doesn't provide a local backup system that leaves the files flat. Windows 8 and Windows 10 file history is pretty good at that. I have been using sync software like SyncbackSE and GoodSync with great results as well. These software offer a lot of features for more advanced control than the simpler File History.
