Operation Paused: How to respond

Thread needs solution

I just got a message:

Operation Paused:
8:35:29 PM  The disk is full

If you do not make a decision, the operation will fail in ten minutes

The disk full message is because the USB drive on which a "reserve copy" is being stored is full. I would like to delete files to provide enough free space, and then resume the backup.

However, I see no place where I can "make a decision".  The Icon on the task bar only has the Status /Cancel/Priority/About options and, if I open the ATI2016 GUI, I see no options to "make a decision".

All I can do is wait for the operation to time out, and then restart the job.  But it seems there should be an option to respond to this error message someplace.

Any thoughts?

Go into settings and stop the backup script. It's not going to run since the disk is full anyway and if you move or delete the backups, or replace with a new drive, you'll want to start a new backup script.  The notifcation you're seeing is usually a system tray notification (I believe).  I have not reached a full disk before, but what happens if you actually launch Acronis and then respond to the backup (aka stop it from running).

In the first email sent me by TIH:

Entire PC (RONBP) Task is waiting for user interaction.
Description: Stage Description
Information: The disk is full.
Details: You must free additional disk space to continue. You can either empty the Recycle Bin or delete old data files.
To specify another location, click Browse.

The relevant line from the log message, in the email TIH sent me:

35    True Image    2/12/2016 8:35:29 PM    The disk is full.
You must free additional disk space to continue. You can either empty the Recycle Bin or delete old data files.
To specify another location, click Browse.: ⎂Retry//⎂Cancel//

And I deleted old data files to free up enough space.  But nothing happened.  And I did not see any Browse//Retry//Cancel dialog box when I opened the TIH GUI.  That is what seems to be missing.  It was present in previous versions when an error would occur.

I did not want to stop the backup; but rather have it continue creating the reserve copy (it had already written out the incremental for the regular backup), and then go through the Verification phase.

So where is the above-mentioned Browse//Retry//Cancel input hiding?

If the backup is actually running, you should be able to either right click on the backup name and stop it, or under the running job (see screenshots).  What old files did you delete to free up space (Acronis backup files or other non Acronis related files)?  If you deleted Acronis backup files, pretend like you are going to do a restore.  It will tell you files are missing and ask you to browse for them or ignore them.  Click through all of the ignore prompts until there are none left.  This will update the backup database and hopefully it will start backing up again.

I'm not sure how much disk space you were able to free up and how much space your backup needs to continue running - if you still don't have enough free space on the disk for Acronis to backup all of the current changes, you'll continue to receive these warnings.

I do not believe you are understanding me as you keep writing about STOPPING the backup.  Believe me, I know how to STOP a backup.  I can see the STOP button at the lower right hand corner of the GUI, and also in the drop-down next to the task.

I DO NOT WANT TO STOP THE BACKUP.
I WANT TO RESPOND TO THE TIH ERROR MESSAGE by DELETING OLD DATA FILES TO FREE UP ENOUGH SPACE.

My problem is that I do not see where to respond to the error message in TIH 2016.

Please address that problem, if you can.

Ron,

Often times, the message is under other screens and these must be minimized but it sounds like the message has come and gone.

Do your deletions and then restart the backup via the "Back up now" option.

Under task backup opitons, there is the option "error handling" (or something to that effect as I am going from memoryh),

and you can change the time alloted to the message, and/or number of times message is displayed, etc.

Thanks Grover.

Perhaps it had come and gone.  But TIH was still running at the time.  The job eventually cancelled "due to a timeout" but it was well after the time that it should have had the error handling conditions been respected.

I will try changing those error handling conditions so as to provide for a longer time.  I don't know if it will work, though.  HELP states that the error handling conditions do not apply if one is using a USB drive.  But it doesn't indicate if that restriction is also applicable when making a Reserve Backup copy.

I have just purchased a new PC and tried to use TI 2016 to recover Disk C from external hard drive F. The first two tries it froze at 45 minutes remaining, third attempt set up OK but will not actually run.

HI David, you should start a new post for this topic as it is not related directly to the OPs original issue.  If you can provide more details in your new post about the boot error (what's it doing), we might be able to provide more assistance in the new forum entry.  Acronis technical support can also be contacted for backup and recovery issues (http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support).  I have a feeling that you are trying to push an older legacy/bios system to a newer UEFI/GPT system and the 2 are not compatible in most cases.  In some instances, you can enable legacy (CSM) mode in a bios, but you'd have to refer to your system manual or support for those features.

I have ran into this problem quite a few times before, where you get the disk is full error and you have ten minutes to choose an option or the backup will be cancelled. However what is different today is that I just caught the dialog window to make my choice in the corner of my eye appear, and then disappear after about 125-300 milliseconds. And  before you ask, NO, this dialog box isn't just hidden behind the main TI configuration window or any other window on my desktop. The dialog box simply disappears. This looks like it is a bug. On my Windows 10 system, I can reproduces this issue every single time by closing the main TI window, and then left clicking the backup in progress icon in the system tray. The dialog box will again reappear for an extremely small amount of time and then closes just before the main TI window appears. I have found no work-around for this other than cancelling the current backup, freeing up drive space, and restarting the backup. This is slightly annoying and should have been addressed.

I suspect this problem has been fixed in more recent versions of ATI; as ATI 2016 has been out of support for many years there will not be an update to it addressing this or any other issues.

I regularly have issues with insufficient storage space for a backup to complete; ATI 2021 will not run a backup if it estimates there is insufficient space to run the backup - although sometimes it gets it wrong.

Ian

Yeah, I realize that this version is out of support, hence the "should have been addressed". I was just putting this comment up in the (albeit slight) chance it could help someone. Thank you for your response all the same though :)
