Password Issue

Thread needs solution

Hello all

First of all: No, I haven't forgot my password ...
anyway: when I boot from Acronis DVD and try to recover a password-locked backup, Acronis says "wrong password or CapsLock or wrong language"

passwort is correct, I'm sure, because I can open these Backup-Files with this password when I start the installed Acronis-Application on my computer, but not, when I start the PC via Acronis DVD
The password contains characters (capitals too), numbers and special characters, which are available on keyboard layouts in german as well as in english (us)
capslock is not set wrong
language: it's "eng" by default and I don't know where to change

I'm using Acronis TI 2016 german Build 6595

Any ideas, what's going wrong or what to do?

Thx Chris

Chris, welcome to these User Forums.

If you are fully sure that you know the correct password and this works fine when looking at the same backup image file in the Windows ATI application, then this has got to be a keyboard mapping issue with the bootable Rescue Media DVD.

What I would suggest is trying to type the same password while booted from the DVD but do so as if you were going to create a new backup so that you can see exactly what characters are being typed, i.e. as the name for the backup file?

Hi Steve,

thx for this idea. If I do as you suggested, the password characters are typed correctly.

I tried another time to open the same backup file from

1) the installed application: success (so password must be correct!)

2) the system, booted by DVD: "Password not correct..."

just I wrote above. I don't have an idea whats going wrong here ...

Best, Chris

Chris, have just done a quick test and all worked fine for me.  Perhaps you can try something similar.

Create a small password protected Files & Folders backup of a small folder, using a very simple password, i.e. using just letters & numbers with no special characters.

Double-click on the new backup .tib file in Explorer and check you can enter the password & open the archive.

Boot from your DVD and try to follow the steps needed to restore the protected image file, entering the same password when prompted.

I did the above and booted using my MVP WinPE USB stick created from ATI 2018 and all was fine.
