Previous backup from SSD later restore to hard disk partition possible?

Thread needs solution

Assume I performed a System backup from a (Win 7 or Win 10) partition on a SSD.

Now lets assume the SSD gets damaged: Can I later restore the Win 7 or Win10 partition to the hard disk as well?

Peter, the simple answer is 'it depends'!

How many disks do you have in the system in the question?
What type of SSD is installed?
Does your system backup include all hidden / system partitions required for a full recovery?

If you have only a single SSD installed (for a laptop say) and you are going to replace this with a HDD, then you could restore the SSD backup to the HDD, assuming that the latter has sufficient space to accommodate all the partitions from the SSD.

If you have multiple drives installed and are intending to remove the 'failed' SSD and restore the partitions from the SSD to a second HDD drive, then this will present additional considerations before the restored partitions could be booted into Windows successfully.  The primary boot device in BIOS (MBR or EFI) would need to reflect the change from the SSD to the HDD, but there may still be issues because the restored Boot Configuration Data used by Windows to boot the system will contain references to the disk controller that the SSD was connected to, so ideally the HDD should be connected in place of the SSD.
