Problem Cloning Windows 10 Pro disk in HP Computer to USB External Hard Drive

Thread needs solution

I am having trouble cloning my system disk to an external USB hard drive.  The ext. drive is bigger than the system disk.  When I start the cloning from Windows I get the reboot message and then a screen with Check Media Presence Then Media Present, Then Start PXE over IPv4, then and error message which disappears before I can read it, Then Start PXE over IPv6, then another error message and then it boots back into Windows 10.  Now whenever I do a cold boot of the system I get the Start PXE... statements again.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The Start PXE messages are nothing to do with Acronis True Image, they are given because your system BIOS has the option enabled to do a Network Boot and it is looking for an available PXE Server using either the TCPIP version 4 or 6 protocols.

The issue seems to be that the system can't work out what it is trying to boot from, so it is trying to boot from all options that are configured and may even be trying to boot from your external USB Hard drive itself.

Can you boot the Acronis Startup Recovery Manager (F11 at boot) or from Rescue Media created on CD?

If your system uses UEFI then you will need to create WinPE Rescue Media as UEFI won't work with Linux based recovery media, including the ASRM.

First it is recommended that you only perform a Clone operation when computer is booted to the Recovery Media.

Secondly the PXE messages indicate that the computer is attempting to boot from a PXE OPROM which is definitely not present in your laptop.  You should boot into the bios and disable the boot from PXE if enabled and make sure your hard drive is set as first in boot order.   Of course if you want to boot to Recovery Media then that media needs to be first in the boot order list.
