Problem with Incremental Backup

Thread needs solution

I have TI 2016 on 3 computers. I have them set up the same & have backed up this way through a number of versions of TI. Here is my set up. Incremental backup, limit it to 6 increments, save only 1 incremental backup & delete old ones.
On one computer is keeps continually making incremental backups without starting a new one or deleting any.
I started the backup at 5:30 am & at 9:30 am I already have 15 incremental backups & it's still going.
I've deleted the backups & started over with new settings 3 times now & it's the same each time.
The other 2 computers with the same exact settings are working normal.

My suggestion would be to use the 1915 schedule manager and use the "task zap" command to delete all tasks.
Use the command "Get list" to see a listing of what will be deleted.

Set up your new backup task. Task name should be new or unique and target destination folder name to be new..
Configure the new task as per GH12 example but set to "Store 1 recent version chain" if you only want one chain to be kept.

GH12. Create Custom Incremental Backup Scheme w/auto cleanup. ...Keep Full plus 6 Inc per chain. Store/Keep 4 chains. Use whatever number best fits your needs.

I've done all that you've suggested & it's still running wild. I have 57 backups since yesterday afternoon. I already had the settings you suggested for the Incremental backup. It's what I've been using for years now.

Jerry,
Curious. How was 2016 installed on the problem computer? If an update over a prior version, what was it updated from and was the new update done by the system for by you manually?

Was the backups that was running wild, new 2016 tasks or tasks from prior versions.

It was updated from th 2015 version. It was installed by me manually. The tasks were new for this version & exactly like the 2 other computers I set up that had no problems.
