problem with multiple full backups in one day

Thread needs solution

Hello, I have a strange problem with my backup.

My settings on a windows 10 pro 64 bit pc are:

- incremental backup everyday at 2 p.m.

- full backup every 30 incremental backups;

- backup is stored into a netgear NAS.

The problem is that when it's time for the full backup the software makes multiple versions of the full backup instead of one.

The full backup is about 60gb and it is usually repeated 6-7 times in a day.

Does anyone know why? Is there a way to stop it from creating multiple full backups in the same day?

Thanks!

Are they all 60GB those 6-7 times a day, or smaller chunks that add up to about that 60GB?  Smaller chunks can be normal for a single full backup if not specific size was set (I set mine to always be 4GB so I can put them on an SBM share that requires FAT32 formatting).

If it is 60GB everytime, the backup task may be corrupt or their may be a communication error with the NAS (slow network speed, not enough resources like CPU or memory can be an issue depending on the type of NAS).  If this is a wireless connection, that could be the problem too - try a physical network connection instead with an ethernet cable if not doing that already.

How long have you had the NAS?  Disks can breakdown overtime and leave dirty bits/sectors what cause corruption.  You can try running a disk utility on the NAS drives and/or your main OS drive to see if there is any disk corruption detected.

You could try creating a new backup task wiht a unique name and it's own folder on the NAS and see if it fairs any better.  If it does, stop the old task, hold onto those backups for posterity (if you have the room), and let the new backup job take over.

Lots of things to troubleshoot unfortunately, but hopefully this gives you some places to start with.

duplicate - sorry.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I already tried almost everything you mentioned:

- it's a wired connection (gigabit) with new cat. 6 cables;

- nas and pc are new (2 months);

- backup have its own folder on the NAS;

- already deleted the first task and created a new one -> same problem;

- it's 60gb x 6-7 times;

- no disk corruption detected both on NAS and PC.

The PC is an HP all in one i3 dual core with 4gb of ram

Hmmm, and you've tried creatinga completely new backup task with a new name and its own folder and it does the same thing still?

Yes, new backup task and new folder but the problem is still there...

Something else I could try?

Thanks

Just to rule it out as being an issue with the Acronis install, you could try the clean uninstall / reinstall procedures listed here:  Then reinstall "fresh" with the latest downloads from your account and making sure to install using the right-click "run as administrator" option and see if that makes any difference.

I have just searched for this issue also as I have the same problem. I have 4 different backup locations and over the past 6 weeks after updating to Aconis 2016 it has also created multiple backups in one day until my backup drive is full. Backup files are over 100GB. I am running full backups each time, one a week per location with a new NAS system and new drives.

I may have 5 full backups before the drive fills up. The next 2-3 weeks everything may work fine. I also have tried most of everything suggested.

icedog458, welcome to these user forums.

Please download a copy of the Log File Viewer app from the link in my signature below.  You can use this to check the Service log files that are associated with your backup tasks.  It would be helpful in trying to understand the problem if you could post some of those log files so that we can see what messages are being posted in the logs plus how frequently the backup task is running.

There are some know issues with regards to how the task Advanced > Error Handling options operate in practise, I would recommend looking at your Error Handling settings and changing the delay before retry time to be in hours and not the default Seconds.  This will offer some immediate relief if you are hitting an error retry condition.

Here is the service log for the backup that started at 2:00 AM. It looks like it says the disk is full but when I looked at the files on my drive there was a 100GB+ file created after 2, one created about 3:30, one created around 5 and another partial at about 6:30. I did not think to take a screenshot of that until after I deleted them so I could make a good backup. I will do this if it happens again. There were a couple of other failed attempts but they were because of computer restarts from MS Win 10 updates.

Thanks for the service log though this does not show any information related to repetitive backups if this is occurring as it is only the one log file.

What I see in the log file is:

Create Backup Archive From: C:\Users\Dave\  To file: David Mercer_full_b4_s1_v1.tib Compression: Normal Exclude: System files
date/time=11/08/2016 08:01:20 Writing full version to file: David Mercer_full_b4_s1_v1.tib
date/time=11/08/2016 08:24:25 Writing full version to file: David Mercer_full_b4_s1_v2.tib
date/time=11/08/2016 08:24:29 Writing full version to file: David Mercer_full_b4_s1_v3.tib
date/time=11/08/2016 08:24:30 The disk is full.

The above looks like you are setting a size to split your backup files given you are creating multiple different file segments for V1, V2 & V3 before you hit the disk full message.  The further messages are given because of the disk full situation.

It started again so here a few more log files. I am not placing a size on the backup file and all other locations are working fine at this time. This has been working fine and the other backup to this same location has been fine also. I tried including a screenshot but it may not be very clear or ver legible. If I can improve on that I will do so.

Thanks for your help!!

Thanks for the additional logs, these show another known problem for which there is not a solution at this time.

See post: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/119938 and the update from Slava in post #3.

Your logs show the same issue:
