Problem: Very slow boot up of PC. It takes 5 minutes before PC'e is ready.
After a clean installation of Windows 10. No problems. The PC will boot in 10 seconds
After clean installation of Acronis Thrue Image 2016, it takes 5 minutes.
After uninstalling Acronis are PC OK again.
I have never experienced this before. Has now been forced to install another backup system.
Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, latest update. Backup disk: Seagate 4TB USB disk.

I agree with Steve, Windows 10 Fast Boot is at work here.
- Log in to post comments

Hmm... With a 5mn delay, that is something else than the absence of fast.
What is the delay? Is it before the Window desktop appears, or after or across? If it is before the desktop appears, it could be a conflict with low level drivers (maybe from thirst party software) and the Acronis drivers and software.
One thing to try, if you are interested in debugging, is to install Acronis and then disable the Acronis related services and start up items. If the boot is still slow, there is a more complicated software issue. You might have to uninstall or disable other software (maybe disk software, security software to identify the conflict). If the boot is fast again, turn first the services one by one, starting with the scheduler help service (which is the only required service). And proceed until the problem reappears.

Please see the detailed discussion in post https://forum.acronis.com/forum/107302 on this same subject to save reinventing the same wheel here.

Chris,
The disabling of fast startup is definately in play here. Having said that you really should have a look at what all is set to run on system startup. Tirmming down these items to a minimum will increase system performance including startup time.
Pat L makes a good point in that there is a good chance of there being a conflict with TI and some other application on your system given the fact that you are seeing a 5 minute delay in the machine being ready to use. You should follow his lead to try to discover if in fact that is the case.

Thanks for the answer.
I have now tested various solutions. Same problem. But I was a little quick because the PC starter between 15-20 seconds, not 10 seconds without Acronis. With installed Acronis is the boot time still approximately 5 min before the desktop is presented. This even though I have not tried to startup the Acronis program and although my external backup disk is disconnected. There is NO difference in boot time with fastboot on or off.
I have tried to disable Acronis services without any result and have only 1 program installed (Office 365 Home (2016)).
I think I must give up Acronis, if only my PC is the problem. All other programs I have installed subsequently has not caused problems..
I have used backup program since "Acronis True Image 10 Home" without major problems, and I will be sorry to be forced to give it up now.
My installation is: Motherboard ASUS P8S77-V Deluxe, with CPU i7-2600K, 3.40 GHz. 8GB RAM. Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. C Drive: Intel SSD.

Did you install the OEM drivers or the windows 10 drivers?
Also, have you checked if there are any bios updates for your mainboard?
I appologise if my suggestions seem like tellng you to suck eggs.... I've just found that those 2 sources can cause some wierd issues with windows installations at times and I'm not certain what Acronis interacts with.
I recently had a similar issue and it turned out to be the boot time scan of Bitdefender... wasn't locking up but just took a lot longer after I had Acronis installed.
Just seems odd that with fairly standard hardware you would be having this issue.
Possibly use the Acronis downoad for doing uninstalls as well and clear it out 100% before reinstalling? If it's a registry glitch or similar that could also be at fault but left behind after a regulatr uninstall.
Hope you get it sorted :).

Chris,
mgrobins makes a very valid comment about hardware drivers and the relationship of applications like Windows Defender and Windows Firewall with True Image.
When you performed your installation did you run the install file as administrator? If you did not that could be at root of the issue.
Do visit the ASUS support site and grab all the latest drivers for you motherboard including any bios updates available and install them. My experience here has shown much better reliability and performance using those drivers than that of default Windows drivers.
I too hope you get this sorted.

Thanks for the recommendations. However, I have already, before I wrote on the forum, checked the latest drivers and bios from ASUS. They are installed. I have even tried to use drivers fo W8.1, updated with the changes for W10. Right now, only Windows drivers and ASUS drivers for W10 installed. I have now reinstalled Kaspersky Internet Security. I always install as an administrator.

Hi Chris: stessi problemi!
- Il mio Hardware: Dell XPS 8300 - Intel Core i7 2600K - Window s 7 Ultimate
- Acronis Tru Image 2016 Build 6571
- Acronis Managed Machine Service Mini: Avviato, Automatico
- Acronis Nonstop Backup Service: Arrestato, Manuale
- Acronis OS Selector Activator: Arrestato, Manuale
- Acronis Scheduler2 Service: Avviato, Automatico
- Acronis Sync Agent Service: Avviato, Manuale
Dopo aver fatto queste modifiche, il boot del sistema ritorna ad essere rapido!
(I don't speak English, but if you want i can use Google Translate).
Ciao

Francesco, thank you for posting step-by-step workaround. We have not tested it, but I hope that it will help those who do not need automatic scheduled backups.
The issue with Fast StartUp being disabled by Acronis True Image is expected to be corrected in the next version of the software.

Slava

I'm a little late to this "slow boot" party but wanted to share my experience with ATI 2017. First, here are the computer build details:
ASUS P8Z77-VLK, approx 4 years old - no performance issues. Used on home network with Homegroup. No domain or server.
Boot drive failed, replaced with new Samsung 850 EVO SSD, 500GB
Data kept on a separate drive, which I replaced also.
Clean install of Windows 7 SP1 64 bit, Office 365, Full version Acrobat 11, ATI 2017. No other applications installed. No antivirus installed.
Updates to all software (including Win 7) are current.
After installing ATI 2017 user login went from just a few seconds to at least 3 minutes.
Tried all fixes commonly known (or at least that I could find). Changed user background to image instead of solid color. No change. Used gpedit.exe to change "Set max wait time if user has roaming profile... to 0 (zero)". No change. Safe Mode user login is normal. Used msconfig.msc to set up a clean boot, disabling all services except Microsoft services. User login is normal. Then enabled the non-Microsoft services one by one. ATI 2017 loads about 7 services, with 3 of them at, or near, the top of the list. As soon as I enabled the first 3 ATI services, the slow login appeared. I tried disabling/enabling the ATI services and 100% of the time I could turn the slow login on and off at will. I am convinced that something is going on with ATI services. My guess is that it somehow makes the computer think it's on a domain and is waiting for the network profile to load up. Then it finally times out and logs in locally. I didn't make a screen shot of the MSCONFIG control panel, so I'm not sure what the ATI services were named. I uninstalled ATI 2017 and have had no login problems since. I did not make a screen shot of the MSCONFIG control panel so I don't know what the service names were. Since this took me practically all day I'm not about to reinstall ATI just to get the names.
I have been a ATI user for quite a long time, and I am distressed at this turn of events. In fact I used ATI to recover the data on my data drive. I try to keep data off of the boot drive. It restored properly, although seemed to take forever. No matter, I'm interested in data integrity, not speed, when it comes to restoring files. I was unable to find a solution other than to uninstall ATI 2017. Thought I would share my findings for what it's worth. I suspect the same would happen with Win 10, but that's just a guess.

I have to say that I am experiencing the same problem. Just yesterday rebuilt a W7sp1x64 on lenovo x301, 2 partitions on a 256GB SSD. Everything worked smoothly. Updated windows with 200 plus updates. Running MSE and MS firewall at this time.
After continuing with MS office 2016, Dropbox, and TPfan control boot times went into the weeds, taking 10-20 minutes. I was so discouraged waiting I did not time it.
Executed windows restore point prior to installation of the above 3 products, NO change.
Went to msconfig and disabled all the acronis servcies and startups. Boot times returned to normal. This is very unfortunate and frustrating.

This is not how it should be. Is it only happening with Win7? Time to contact Acronis technical support - live chat would be a good starting point.

Glad to hear it wasn't just me. I spent practically 2 full days trying to track this thing down. Now I'm in a spot trying to figure out what to do about backups. I don't even remember when I started using ATI it's been so long. Always been reliable for me up till now. I don't like all the "add-ins" and real time monitoring and so on. I just want a backup program to be a back up program, the simpler the better. I'm retired having spent considerable time in IT and I'm perfectly capable of managing my own backup strategy.

If there are more reports of the services causing the login problem I will. Just want to be sure I'm not an outlier with everyone else having no problems.
