Problems with drive letters

Thread needs solution

I make a backup on an external drive, it receives the letter "J". I have several other external drives in use. After the backup I disconnect the drive. Some days later I connect the drive again. Now this drive has the letter "L". So, Acronis cannot recognize the backup, because it is fixed on "J". So, I cannot make a recovery.
How to solve this problem?

That is a problem. What I do is go into Disk Management. Make sure your drive is plugged in before you start it. You want to change the drive letter. Best to do is pick a letter at the upper end of the alphabet. ie: "X". Once its assigned, everytime you re-plug it in, it will used that letter. Windows assigns drive letters sequentially from low to high except when they have been permanently assigned and its not in use.

I suggest to use a little program called "USB drive letter manager". This helps to get always the same drive letter for external drives.

Seems to work. Thank you very much.
