Quotas Are Violated - Yet I think I should have enough space

Thread solved

I pulled up the log viewer and copied and pasted the following message.  I run a weekly backup and almost always run to success, I get the following error and no backup, it appears it is indicative of running out of space?  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Scott

Scott, please check the Options > Notifications settings for your backup task, and in particular, check if you have ticked the top option to "Show notification message on insufficient free disk space" and below that, set a value for the "Notify me when free disk space is less than:" fields?

Setting these options can give the error about quotas being violated!  This is because the value set is subtracted from the available amount of free space on the destination storage drive and can lead to a scenario where these is then insufficient space for the backup to run!

Hello Scott,

the message might also indicate there is a set limit on a NAS device (in case you are using NAS a target storage)

  • NAS: the limit (quota) for the NAS user account, indicated during backup setup, has been reached. This quota/limitation is configured in NAS settings outside of Acronis software. Acronis has no influence on it. The NAS user account is completely unrelated to Acronis account and is set exclusively through the NAS management panel

  • External drive, where backups are saved, has quotas enabled for different Windows users
  • Enter NAS management panel and increase quota for the NAS account, that was used in backup configuration

  • Right-click the disk, where backups are saved, in Windows Explorer, and if there is Quota tab, click on it and click “Show Quota settings”. Increase the quota for the SYSTEM account and the current Windows user account.

Thanks.  I have no quota settings on my backup drive.  Also, Steve's suggestion of reducing the setting size in options didn't work either.

So, I am going to delete so of my backup archives, I also remember there is a correct way to do it, can someone point me to any article again?

Thanks.

Scott

Thanks again Steve, I actually found your article, that same one, right yesterday morning, deleted a few backups, followed your instructions, validated the series again, now all is well again.
