Recover of Windows encrypted files by using the tib file in file explorer fails with interface not supported message
Recover of Windows EFS encrypted files by using the tib file in file explorer fails with interface not supported message
Tried to recover specific files out of a validated .tib (volume backup) file by using copy and paste.
This works fine if the files are not encrypted by Windows. ATIH latest Build 6571 was properly reinstalled and .tib was validated, ATIH is started as administrator.
Nevertheless,
Windows encrypted files cannot be recovered by either using:
- copy and paste using Windows explorer,
- copy and paste using mounted .tib file
- file recovery using Acronis UI
- file recovery using Acronis console (main program from boot DVD).
Anyone have any ideas? Can someone tell me if it works for you? Thanks much...

Thanks Bobbo_3C0X1,
However, it works fine with Windows7 EFS and ATIH2010.
The combination Windows10 EFS and ATIH2016 does not work properly. The ATIH backup is generated as a partition backup using the Acronis boot medium. Provided that an authorized EFS user opens the .tib Windows explorer should open the files correctly. And indeed, some of the backup files can be opened correctly from the .tib file with Windows explorer even if they are encrypted.
Actually the function copy&paste fails. Therefore it should not be a general unsupported feature of ATIH.
I am not using bitlocker, I am using Windows EFS which is a file based encryption and not a volume/partition based encryption.

I've not used EFS myself, have not heard many good things about it, only horror stories so have stayed away. As a result, I can't offer any personal experience with EFS and Acronis. The first link below mentions the same behavior because of lack of security permission using the explorer shell in Acronis. The work-a-round is to do a recovery from within Acronis.
I don't see any reference to EFS in the 2016 documentation, which leads me to believe it is not supported, but you could try to contact Acronis technical support and ask them. Should be a free case since it's a recovery issue and recovery issues are always supported.
