Renaming backup

Thread needs solution

I tried to rename a backup in 2016 according to the plan here:

http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATI2016/index.html#34302.html

But it had no effect - the backup continues to use a name format that I used with it originally.  The backup type is a single full backup.

Welcome to these user forums.

From the user guide page you referenced above, it says:

  • Rename (not available for online backups) - allows you to set a new name for a backup in the list. The backup files will not be renamed.

The easiest way to get ATIH 2016 to use a new / different file name is to use the option to Clone settings where all your current settings will be preserved but you can then rename the new cloned task and then that new name will be used when you create your first backup with this new task.

  • Clone settings - Creates a new empty backup box with the settings of the initial backup and named (1) [the initial backup name]. Change the settings, save them, and then click Back up now on the cloned backup box.

Once you have created the new cloned task, you can remove the settings for the original task by using the Delete option, but take care to only delete the settings and not the whole lot which includes your backup files too.

  • Delete - depending on a backup type, this command completely deletes the backup from its location or allows you to choose whether you want to delete the backup completely or the backup box only. When you delete a backup box, the backup files remain in the location, and you will be able to add the backup to the list later. Note that when you delete a backup completely, the deletion cannot be undone.

OK, thanks.   I interpreted that the same way it's given in this other article, about acronis 2016:

https://kb.acronis.com/content/58048

"When you want to change the name of your backup, you should open "Backup Operations" menu as shown athttp://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATI2016/index.html#34302.html and select "Rename" option. This is the correct way of renaming backups in Acronis True Image 2016.

"After you do that all future .tib files will have the new name. Previously created .tib files will not change their names."

Consistency and coherence in acronis' own doc would be nice!
