Restore from backup

Thread needs solution

I just made a complete backup of my computer to an external drive and believe it or not, my screen just went Black and I received a message stating that my internal hard drive was going to fail immenently

I had a Tech from Staples go over everything with me and he said it was a genuine message.

I bought a new hard drive and want to restore the backed up system.

Will it restore the operating nsystem and the settings also?

Thank you,

Art

Hello Arthur,

If you have created a full backup image of your entire disk drive that is failing, and provided that there is no corruption in the backup image caused by the immenent drive failure, then you should be good to restore the backup image to your new drive.  The backup image will contain all your OS and settings etc.

Please take a look at 117004: Great Acronis "How-To" videos and other Acronis Resources which will give you a good tutorial on doing the restore.

If your system is still operational, then you could try restoring the backup image to the new drive from within the Acronis application running in Windows, assuming that you can connect both the new drive and the drive holding the backup image at the same time.  Please ensure that you select the correct target drive for the restore operation, i.e. your new hard drive which will replace the failing one.
