Restore Failure containing .AppleDouble
ATI2016 running (perpetual license). Backing up my network drives on a regular schedule as expected. Until the day came when the source drive failed, and I needed to actually RESTORE from one of these backups. Instant fail. Failing on the presence of an .AppleDouble directory, with no option to exclude that during the restore attempt.
Opened a online chat case with Support, who started to provide information on two methods to try. Then they realized (based on my account I guess) that I am running ATI 2016, and that they would not support it, told me to buy newer software, and then immediately closed the online chat before I could respond or ask any questions about what to do from there.
So I have software on my computer, files that I cannot access, a company that immediately decided to not communicate with me, after telling me that I need to pay them money if I want to recover my data. That sounds more like ransomware to me than a consumer product with a reputation to stand behind.
Has anyone else run into the recovery failures with .AppleDouble in ATI2016 and been able to restore from these backups anyway? (And has anyone else been forced to upgrade - a did the restore that failed in ATI 2016 work from the new version from that point?)

Hello Evan.
We haven't provided technical support for that product since 2017. You can refer to our product lifecycle here: https://www.acronis.com/en-eu/support/lifecycle/consumer/#older
Regarding the issue you mentioned, it's expected. You can exclude those items from the backups by following this user guide:
https://www.acronis.com/en-eu/support/documentation/ATI2016/#32785.html
https://www.acronis.com/en-eu/support/documentation/ATI2016/#3488.html
Have you tried performing a full machine recovery with the B.media? You can find instructions here: https://www.acronis.com/en-eu/support/documentation/ATI2016/#22719.html
If the restore process continues to fail, you may want to consider manually extracting your data from the backup. This involves mounting the backup image and copying the necessary files. You can do this using one of the following methods:
2. Alternatively, try this method:: https://kb.acronis.com/content/46340
- Try to open the backup with Windows Explorer (by double-clicking on the *.TIB file) -> right-click on the file/folder you want to recover -> select "Copy" -> and then paste the file to the desired location:
- If the backup is located on a network share, try placing the backup to a local drive and check if the recovery works.
- Try restoring files using Bootable media.
- Try recovering another version of the backup if it exists.
Best regards!
