Run True Image stack only if connected to local NAS

Acronis True Image 2016 Help, Nonstop Backup - Frequently asked questions
My, probably everyones challenge, is that too many services tout for CPU power, and although my notebook has latest and fastest built in, it's no a 4 CPU server.
So I observed that in some cases Acronis True Image uses CPU or when I restart Acronis says it need time to stop, although I'm not in the LAN where the backup NAS is.
Is there a clean way to start/stop the whole Acronis stack by WIndows scheduler?
Or any better Idea?
Thanks for directions.

Hello Rotozaza,
Acronis True Image 2016 has a setting Run when the current source device is attached available if you want to regularly back up data located on a removable media (for example USB flash drive) or remote storage (for example network folder or NAS): http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATI2016/index.html#7…
Thank you,

Rotozaza, by default, Acronis runs a few services that are not necessary if you are not using Nonstop backup or Cloud services. You can manually stop them and disable them in the services window to help save on system resources. You may want to double check "msconfig" startup services to verify the aren't set to kick in again though. In Windows 10, this is done thorugh ctrl+alt+del / task manager under the startup tab and/or services tab.
If you don't use these services, you can disable them:
56697: Acronis True Image 2016: Services and Processes
Acronis True Image services:
Service name | Purpose |
---|---|
Acronis Nonstop Backup Service (afcdp) | Performs Nonstop Backup for partitions |
Acronis Scheduler2 Service (AcrSch2Svc) | Task scheduling for Acronis True Image |
Acronis Sync Agent Service (syncagentsrv) | Performs Synchronization |
Acronis Managed Machine Service Mini | Communicates with Family Dashboard |

Thank you. What I did for a test. I use scheduled backup.
Now I have to decide if I create a bat which fires up these services, and or trigger it by Windows scheduler. Any recipe, ready bat is welcome. As this isn't my main duty ;-)

This isn't a batch file, but gives you all the commands you need to make the one you want. Then you can set your batch files to apply through scheduled tastks or by manually clicking on them...
:: Starts the services listed below
:: mmsminisrv = Acronis Managed Machine Service Mini
:: afcdpsrv = Acronis Nonstop Backup Service
:: ArcSch2Svc = Acronis Scheduler 2 Service
:: syncagentsrv = Acronis Sync Agent Service
:: The following commands start the services
sc start "mmsminisrv"
sc start "afcdpsrv"
sc start "AcrSch2Svc"
sc start "syncagentsrv"
:: The following commands stop the services
sc stop "mmsminisrv"
sc stop "afcdpsrv"
sc stop "AcrSch2Svc"
sc stop "syncagentsrv"
:: The following commands change the startup Type to Disabled
sc config "mmsminisrv" Start= disabled
sc config "afcdpsrv" Start= disabled
sc config "AcrSch2Svc" Start= disabled
sc config "syncagentsrv" Start= disabled
:: The following commands change the startup type to Automatic
sc config "mmsminisrv" Start= auto
sc config "afcdpsrv" Start= auto
sc config "AcrSch2Svc" Start= auto
sc config "syncagentsrv" Start= auto
***EDIT****One of the services was set to start instead of stop - corrected now.

Anyway, as True Image fails in any case and scenriao, no need to get sophisticated.

Hello Acronis Management
I buy SW since 1988. Acronis True Image 2016 is worst investment I ever did.
I chose Acronis based on good experience with Partition Expert. I used for many years Ghost, without any issue.
Acronis True Image 2016 was never able to make images from my performance Windows 10, mainly connection issues, not finding backup version files, locking its own version files, hanging for hours preparing. Testing 3 different NAS over LAN.
Just gave another try today with latest uopdate, no chance. result, need to kill all processes.
Not one image in one year was properly written.
I ask for refund.
Regards
Vulg: I'm totally pissed!

Hello Rotozaza,
Looks like there are several different issues in your case, not just CPU "overuse", requiring individual approach. I suggest that you open a support ticket at http://www.acronis.com/support/contact-us.html. If you will be paying "Pay per incident" fee, and later our investigation will confirm that the issue was in the product itself, the fee will be refunded.
Regards,
Slava

Thank you.
CPU isn't the issue, as this is a new high end ThinkPad.
I switched to Macrium Reflect and it did the images from the very first moment, using LAN cable over router to QNAP NAS.
I've bought Acronis True Image a year ago, but support refused new tickets as they only support for limited time within the price. Again, you got me dumbfounded, as it was the first ticket I opened. So software business 1.0.
Acronis True Image may work for USB attached storage only. It attracts by great UI design... all show and no substance!

I agree with the support model lacking in 2016 and earlier versions - can't argue with you there. I'm glad to see that Acronis is finally including 1 year technical support with all versions of 2017 - they are listening, but sure took a while to get there on this one.
I don't agree with the substance lacking though. I use Acronis on numerous PC with varying network shares and NAS devices and have been for years. I like it, but to each their own. There are things I like about Macrium (and things I don't) and the same goes for Acronis. Both have different issues and no backup product I have ever used works 100% in all scenarios - especially as we all have different hardware, OS settings and applications that make each computer build unique in many areas.
One advantage Macrium has over Acronis (in your case - right now ) is it's "fresh" to the OS. It has not been installed during your Windows upgrades, nor has it had numerous within appication upgrades or a combination of both that can introduce performance issues either due to changes in the OS, or the appication. Overtime, this may change with Marcium for you too . Often times, when people run the cleanup tool in Acronis and put it back to a "fresh" state, they find that it works great again since they have helped cleanup the cobwebs that have grown overtime.
I wont' go into details about Macrium - I use both, but Acronis is still my go-to and has the advantage of cloud backup and storage too. I'll I can say from my own experience, is that Macrium is not without its own flaws.
I do hope the best for your backups and use of whatever prouct you use. Having safe, reliable backups is the most important feature, so do what you gotta do. If you have time though, give the Acronis cleanup a chance and see if it helps restore some of your confidence in Acronis again.
