Seagate DiscWizard Runtime error

Thread needs solution

I believe this is the right place to post this but correct me if I am wrong.

Anyway, I bought a new Seagate SSHD to replace my old WD HDD. So, I when I go to clone the HDD to the SSHD, I keep coming up with a runtime error. Here is the exact error and I simply cannot find it anywhere on the internet with a google search, so this was the only place I could turn to find an answer.

Starting UEFI Loader (x64) (v.1.1.40)...

Runtime error:

Error 0x1480012

| line info: 0x76df0d19c4c8565a

| $module: bootwiz_efia64_40

Any information on this error would be greatly appreciated as I have no idea why it is giving me this error. I also ran a reimage repair tool to correct any errors or malicious files my HDD had. Still, the same error has been occuring. Thanks in advance.

Sean,

Welcome to the forum.

After completing the clone, did you remove the old HDD?

The cloning never begins and the program that starts it never comes up after the intial restart. I downloaded acronis true image hd and it seems to go all the way to the cloning screen and when it starts to clone all the partitions, it suddenly finishes without copying anything and restarts without any errors. So, now I'm trying some other free cloning programs to see if they work. This is also a Windows 10 OS and I'm cloning almost 500gb of data to a 1TB SSHD from a traditional HDD.

With acronis true image, are you booting from rescue media, or are you setting up the clone with ATI running under Windows?  The recommended method is to create rescue media (USB or DVD)...if you have UEFI secure selected, you will need  WinPE  rescue media....then boot the rescue media and then setup and run the clone.

Your other option, if you have an additional HDD, is to do a disk mode backup of the HDD, using full partition list...see picture below.  Then restore the image to the SSHD.

I'm just going straight into the clone process. Ill try this method and give you an update tomorrow.

Cloning cannot be performed when dynamic disks are involved.  An SSHD is considered a dynamic disk as it has a caching partition and the data source spanned together.  You would need to do a full backup, save the backup to another drive (3rd drive or network location) and then restore the backup.

I just purchased a 2TB Seagate FireCuda SSHD and am trying to clone in windows from a 500GB HDD using the DiskWizard software.  I'm getting the exact same error as posted by the original poster:

Starting UEFI Loader (x64) (v.1.1.40)...

Runtime error:

Error 0x1480012

| line info: 0x76df0d19c4c8565a

What steps do I need to take to troubleshoot this?  I do not have a 3rd drive to save/restore a backup on.  Is that the only way to clone  from HDD to SSHD?

Thanks!

Ryan, welcome to these user forums.

Please see post: 128231: [IMPORTANT] CLONING - How NOT to do this!!!

I would strongly recommend creating the Acronis bootable Rescue Media provided with your OEM Seagate DiscWizard software and testing that this can be booted from outside of Windows.  You should boot the Rescue Media in the same mode as used by your Windows OS - see webpage: Check if your PC uses UEFI or BIOS to check how Windows boots from the BIOS level.

If the Rescue Media either doesn't boot or can't see your disk drives, then this would be a limitation of the default, Linux based rescue media, and will require that the alternative Windows PE version of the Rescue Media be created and tested.

See the earlier comments about SSHD drives - these are technically hybrid drives (a combination of a small SSD coupled to a larger spinning disk) and as such may be seen by Acronis / Seagate as dynamic drives, and if so, cannot be cloned - Backup & Restore would need to be used instead of cloning.

Thanks for they reply and pointing me towards your great post about cloning.  Here's what I've determined:

  • PC uses UEFI to boot (OS: Win 10)
  • I created a SeagateBootableMedia.iso file and tested it in MobaLiveCD_v2.1.  When tested, the SeaGate DiskWizard menu screen appeared.  When clicking on "Start Windows", the prompt displayed "Unable to load operating system. Press <Enter> to reboot...". (See photos)

I'm assuming this means that I will need to upgrade the software and try making the alternative WinPE rescue media?  Additionally, I'm getting the hint that I should try to avoid this cloning business and do a backup/restore method.

If I choose to attempt the backup/restore method, after creating the backup, would I do fresh windows 10 install and then restore the image on the new drive or does the image also carry over the OS?

Thanks!

Ryan, testing the Seagate Boot CD in QEMU won't be enough to show whether your system can boot from the CD - you need to burn the ISO to CD and actually try to boot it, choosing the UEFI boot option for the CD drive.  Note: you may need to disable Secure Boot if this is enabled in your BIOS settings as the Linux media may not be allowed to boot if this is enabled.

The main reason why you cannot click on the 'Start Windows' option when booted in QEMU is that the emulator has no Windows OS to start, you are just simulating booting the CD media - you would need to click on the top option for Seagate DiscWizard which will launch the Acronis application, but do this for real not in QEMU.

Any full disk backup will be a full image of the entire disk including the OS, all applications and data, so there is no point in doing a fresh install of Windows as the first step of any Restore operation is to wipe the drive in preparation for restoring the backup data / creating the partitions to hold this.

Okay...

  • I burned the .iso file to a DVD
  • Went into the UEFI settings
  • Disabled secure boot
  • Added a boot from CD/DVD option
  • Restarted (Hitting F12) to test the boot from DVD
  • Got the Windows Install screen
  • I did not get the Acronis DiskWizard menu screen like I did when testing in MobaLiveCD.

I'm assuming that means the rescue media file works but how would I open the Acronis application if it goes straight to Windows install?

Ryan, if you are seeing a Windows Install screen when booted from the DVD then that is not an Acronis Rescue Media disc as there is no provision for installing Windows on the Acronis media.

Do you have more than one CD/DVD drive in this system, and if so, have you left the Windows install media in a drive that is being picked up / booted from?

You should be seeing the same as you posted in your screen shot when booted from the Rescue Media.

You're right!  I acidentally left my windows bootable usb in.  Will disconnect and try it again.

Okay...I created a USB media recovery with the DiskWizard utility and booted into the UEFI Loader menu.  From here I can open DiskWizard, System Report or Continue booting.

I tested opening DiskWizard (option 1), which opened without errors and showed me the options to start a clone or create a backup.  If I select to continue booting, then I am returned to the UEFI one-time boot menu where I can select the Boot Manager or the USB again.

Am I able to complete the clone from within the DiskWizard software under USB boot?

Do you think I will still get the same error if I attempt to clone under USB boot?

Ryan, yes, you can complete the clone using DiskWizard booted from the USB media but please ensure that you have a full backup of your source drive for protection against anything going wrong in the process.

Please make sure that you do not attempt to boot the computer with the two drives connected after doing the clone - take out the original drive and replace it with the new cloned drive, then boot from the clone into Windows.

Note: If the new SSD is truly a hybrid drive then it still may not be possible to clone to it as it would still be recognised as a dynamic drive, in which case only Backup & Restore will be able to migrate the OS from the old to the new drive.

Hi people,

I too have the diskwizard  clone  problem that generates the error:

Starting UEFI  Loader (x64) (V.1.1.40)...

Runtime error:

line info 0x76df0d19c4c8565a

: bootwiz_efia64_40

Here is my setup.

I have a new ASUS Tur Mark 2  motherboard that I just installed into my network.

I use  Seagate  1T  disks throughout and all disk are in good shape,  no erors,  just work fine.

Runs solid and I loaded a simple Windows 64bit windows OS  (nothing else)    did a chkdsk c: /F

clean as expected.

System runs fine.

Installed the DISKWIZARD that is the newest on the internet.

I then put in a 2nd  Seagate Disk    and used DISK MANAGEMENT to install it and put a simple volume on D:\

ran a checkdsk d: /F

clean report;   nothing that is unexpected.

Then I used DISKWIZARD to attempt to clone the C:\   to the D:\   sounds straightforward enough.

System reboots and then I get this runtime error.

This motherboard is solid and I can easily load a full operating system with all the added programs and drivers,

everything works just fine.

At this point,  I feel that the Seagate Diskwizard has something that is not totally compatible with the newest  GPD drive formats and / or   EUFI  motherboard .      So, let's say it is a BIOS issue that somehow I missed here.

Historically I always used the MBR motherboards of a few years ago, and this is my first venture into GPD and EUFI.

Still,  I hope that someone can shed some light on this,   since the drives themselves and the OS clone are pretty basic in my test setup.

For now,  I created a recover memory stick to clone my disks.   That works great and eliminates the interaction between diskwizard   clone    and a straight Seagate disk clone.

I hope that it helps the Seagate software engineers  look into this issue to resolve it for good.

Did you run the disk wizard while booted from the rescue USB or CD/DVD drive?. If not this is the recommended approach. If you ran while booted from Windows then the possibility of error exists when Disk wizard reboots into Linux and rewrites the Windows boot code.

In reply to by truwrikodrorow…

For clarification,   I created a memory stick  Seagate Recovery and then chose    optin 1  to run diskwizard

and do the clone with no Windows Operating System running at that point.   It is entirely Seagate software making the clone.

I still suggest that UEFI is a trip hazard for Seagate  runing in WINDOWS and trying to clone disks, and, should the reality be that Seagate or any other clone software running on WINDOWS can't get around this,  then an announcement should be made inside the software that says in effect, "CAUTION: if using UEFI, disk clones must be done using a memory stick,  then point to a website that gives step by step instructions to users so they don't fall into the trap that created this thread in the first place.

Seagate recommends only cloning using the DiscWizard Boot disk, not the normal UI - see

Cloning a Desktop HD How to Perform a Clone in Windows with DiscWizard v16

If you cannot get it to work then you can

  1. create a disk image of the current system disk on an external drive using DiskWizard,
  2. fit the new hard disk in the computer,
  3. boot from the DiscWizard Boot disk and
  4. restore the image directly onto the new disk.
