Seemed to do full backup instead of incremental

Thread needs solution

I set Acronis TI 2016 to do the first full image backup followed by continued incremental backups. I have just completed my fourth backup. The first was full at around 278 GB and the second and third were around 22 GB and 26 GB. However, the fourth supposedly incremental backup was 287 GB which almost filled my external hard drive. The total space taken by these four backup is around 600 GB. It has only been a month since my last incremental backup and the laptop I was backing up only had a 500 GB hard drive. I checked my settings for the backup and it was still set to be an incremental backup. Can I assume that this last backup was a full backup and delete the other three or should I be doing something else?

Hi David,

please open backup destination and check the backup names. Full backups should have an attribute _full. Please find here more information about backups naming.

Incremental backups also can be relatively big when you e.g. performed a defragmentation: Acronis Backup Software Creates Large Incremental or Differential Backup Archives

Thank you,

This link can provide a lot of help. The example GH12 is one you should consider rather than one with never ending incrementals.

Be aware that when restoring a backup where incrmentals are involved, all must be present (no deletions) in order for the restore to succeed.
