setting backup parameters and making file cleanup work

Thread needs solution

I have 2 problems.

1. Now that I have 2016 I can't find where to set the backup parameters on my local machine, such as what days to back up, how many backup files to keep, turning offbackup while I'm away etc.

2. For a long time now, as far as I know (I can't see the parameters any more) I have had it set to only keep a certain number of backup files but it always keeps all of them, and periodically I have to go in and delete a whole lot of them.

Can someone please tell me how to find the parameters and how to make the cleanup work.

Helen, I would recommend taking a look at the ATIH 2016 User Guide to start with, in particular the section for Backing up disks and partitions http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATI2016/index.html#7937.html which will take you through the basic steps.

With regards to using automatic cleanup, the important factor to remember is that this works on Backup Version Chains, where you decide how many backups comprise a version chain.

For example: A version chain will always include 1 Full Backup image plus 1 or more Incremental or Differental backup images, this depending on what type of backup scheme you choose to use.

Automatic cleanup rules set the number of days that a version chain should be kept before removing it, so the days you set here apply only to a complete version chain.  For example: You create a Full backup on day 1, incrementals on days 2 to 6, thus on day 7 this version chain is complete and is now 1 day old, so if you keep the chain for 7 days, it will be day 13 before it is removed.  In the meanwhile, you are creating a new version chain from day 7 and continue the process in this way.
