Size of backup file..

Thread needs solution

Hi Guys,

I am wondering about the size of the backup file that ATI 2016 creates...

I am doing a full backup of my C-drive which is 232 GB with used space of approx.  58 GB.

The backup file that ATI creates is only approx 23.5 GB, so I am wondering if I do get a full backup of everything.

The reason for this is, that I want to try and make a fresh install of Win 10, but I would also like to be able to go back to my present configuration, should anything go wrong...

Can anybody ease my mind and confirm that I do get a full backup, so I do not have to worry about formatiing my C-drive..  ??

Thanks in advance.

Using Normal compression, the progam default, your result looks inline with what would be expected.

As to a full backup of C:, when using the Windows installed app there are certain folders and items which are not included in a backup.  These are omitted becasue they follow Microsofts recommendations as items that do not need to be included in a backup.  These exclusions can be found in the Options screen in the GUI under the Exclusions tab.

You can include those items in a backup by deselecting/removing them from the list.  To remove an entry click on the entry and then click the minus symbol at the bottom of the screen.

Just make sure the type of backup you created was the "Entire PC" rather than a disk image backup.

An "Entire PC" backup will include all partitions on your disk, whereas a backup of C only will not be bootable when restored to a new disk.
