snapshots are filling hard drive of source PC

Thread needs solution

If appears that the snapshots that are created with Acronis starts a backup in order to create the TIB file are not being deleted from the source hard drive. On my PC if I look at the System Volume folder there is about 100gb of files. A new file is created in this location everytime I run Aconis backup

Adam,

This is an issue with the settings on your system for the Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) if the temporary snapshot files are not being cleaned up from the System Volume Information folder.

See How to purge the Microsoft Volume Shadow copy Service (VSS) snapshots if they do not get deleted automatically after the backup of Shadow Copy Components.

Or [Forum FAQ] Reduce the size of System Volume Information folder

The main issue that I have found is that I cannot see the drive properties Shadow tab on my Windows 10 system or find the DiskShadow.exe tool in the second webpage article - found later it applies to Window 8, 2008 or 2012.

See KB document: 46195: Acronis Backup Software: Troubleshooting Snapshot Issues

See also: VSS Error Troubleshooting Guide Part 1 of 3 which has the following line:

Enter “vssadmin delete shadows /all” to clean up any dead / orphaned shadows. Some defect systems accumulate hundreds of VSS snapshots that persist in the system and cause Windows to become unresponsive.
