[Solved] Help needed to create bootable rescue media with media add-ons and WinADK

Thread needs solution

Hello all, this is my first post on Acronis forum and I'm new to Acronis. I had difficulty to get bootable rescue media work on my T100TA, the linux based media did boot, but failed to detect my eMMC and my card reader, leaving my USB drive the only storage identified. I tried WinPE, but there was no official 32-bit WinPE media available.

To my knowledge, owing to its UEFI IA32 firmware, a 32-bit WinPE 4.0 or greater was required to boot this system. I did tried M-reflect's rescue media, which successfully backed up my eMMC to USB 3.0 HDD. However,  the WIM file Acronis true image 2016 creats for recovery media contains files for 64-bit WinPE, so it was not possible to use CopyPE and MakeWinPEMedia commands to create 32-bit rescue media.

I came across the MustangPEBuilder 2 which seems promising, but there was no plugin for true image 2016 avalible, therefore, I would like to know how can I intergrate the BartPE plugin which came from Acronis True Image 2016 into 32-bit WinPE 5.0, since I'm not able and not allowed to decompile the autoit script for TI2005. Any help would be appreciated.

Leonard. I believe the T100 is a 32 bit only system. Currently the default bootable media is Linux and does not have drivers for eMMC drives.

Acronis WinPE is only 64-bit so that leaves you in a pickle.

The next update to the bootable media should be out this month, but not sure when. I have tested the beta and it sees the eMMC drive in my Asus T200 so you should have a fix soon.

I've been able to use WinPE on my Asus T200 since it is 64-bit, but on my previous Acer Aspire Switch 10 (which was 32 bit only and had eMMC hard drive), I could only backup using the Snap Deploy default Linux bootable media so that held me over.

In the meantime, I would contact customer support and request a custom boot media.  They should be able to help get one created for you so you have somethig to use until the next official release comes out.

Hello bobbo, thanks for your prompt reply, glad to know the update is around the corner.

I've found a document describing the meaning of the inf file in the bartpe plugin, and will try to install the ATI 2016 plugin to WinPE 5, if it failed, I will wait for the update.

Thanks for your informaiton!

Update: the Acronic true image 2016 media add-ons contained no 32-bit TrueImage.exe and TrueImage_starter.exe.
The description of the 64-bit version files indicates both EXEs are PE specific version, thus creating 32-bit recovery media using the BartPE plugin was not possible, so I had to wait for the update.

That's what I figured.  As of 205/2016, there is no longer any 32-bit support for WinPE so it's not possible to create - not with Mustang's custom PE builder or anything else that I'm aware of at this time.  Since you bascially have 0 chance of performing an offline recovery as things stand right now, I would hope that Acronis would be able to build a custome LInux bootable media for you in the meantime.  They have done it for others in unique situations.

Please see this forum post from the Snap Deploy section - worked for someone else.  You may want to send a primate message (PM) directly to Ekaterina and reference both posts to see if they can help you in a similar fashion.
