[Solved] Where did my restore/recovery option vanish to?
I just updated to 2016, and I wanted to restore my old backup onto a new HD that I got.
It is NOT a boot drive.
I select the backup that I made and.... there is no restore / recovery option?
I don't get it, again, this is NOT a boot drive.
The older version allowed me to do this within Acronis, I select the backup, and then do recover, and tell it the HD that I want to recover to.
What am I missing here?
I see the option to create rescue media, but, this forces me to create said media, and then reboot?
Unacceptable! I can't afford downtime, there are other things running 24/7 on this machine.
I read the Backup & Recovery FAQ, and it seems that they force you to have to reboot the machine in order to restore your backup, even if it is NOT a boot drive?
I am flabbergasted at this inept design decision, and I really hope the restore ability is just in a hidden menu option.

Right, the backups are listed on the left side, under "My backups".
From that list, if I select the dropdown arrow, I only have the options of "Edit, clone, remove, delete".
If I go down to the "operations" drop down menu, there is no restore option either, as you can see in that pic.
The old version of the software, you can clearly see the Recovery option.
The only other options are Sync, Tools (which just makes the rescue media), 'more tools' which is useless for me, and then there is the help option.
I am just not seeing what you are seeing?

What if you remove (not delete) the backup showing up on the list, and then add them back? I am thinking you are facing an issue with the Acronis database. If doing the above doesn't change anything, rename the Database folder under c:\programdata\Acronis\TrueImageHome, then launch Acronis and add the backup you want to restore to.

Thanks for the comment, I had a friend who has more technical ability than I help me and he created a new backup for testing. That one had the recovery option.
Then he used some other tool to see where it was reading the information from and found that database and he renamed it and then imported things back and now it works.
Does anyone know why it got corrupted?

The database gets corrupted, or we think it becomes corrupted, for several reasons: renaming, moving, deleting, reconfiguring backup files is probably the top one from these forums.
In practice, many issues dealing with file and archive management can be solved with deleting that database and reimporting the backup tasks.

Agree with Pat. Unfortunately, there are so many variations with PC's (hardware, installed appications, antivirus, malware, custom settings, using OS and/or registiry tweak tools, upgrades from an old OS to a new one and/or upgrade from old ATIH to a newer version, dirty/bad disks, bad memory, powering down or forcing a reboot during a backup task, etc), it's hard to pinpoint where the corruption may occur. As Pat mentioned though, deleting the database and reimporting it often resolves the issue though. In more serious cases, uninstalling and reinstalling the applicaiton may be required if the database renaming doesn't do the trick. The good news though is that it should not impact the actual backups themselves (except in the case where a backup may have been running and the sytsem halted... then that particular backup may not be good, but anything before it should be fine).

This could have all been avoided if they had a dedicated "Recovery" button/menu option like they had before.
That is why this is baffling design decision.
The program can obviously see the file when you right click on it in explorer, so, why not add a option of "Recover" along with mount?

SparkyOne,
It looks like you're using a WD version of ATIH from the screenshot provided? I don't know if it offers the same capabilities of the commercial version provided by Acronis.
When I add an existing backup, I still have the recovery option as soon as it's been added. I just tested by importing an old backup from August of last year and it immediately has the recover button listed with it as well. Screenshots attached.
Maybe the WD version is limited in some aspects? Or perhaps, try letting Acronis recreate the database and see if that helps restore the functionality if it was there in your WD version of ATIH previously.
As for the mount option, it was dropped in 2015 as you can now double click on .TIB files and they open in Windows Explorer view automatically so that files/folders can be copied and pasted for recovery.
Please submit feedback through the applicaiton though to register your ideas/concerns. If enough people do the same, you may see these items changed in future updates and/or releases.

Well, yes, doing imports does indeed work, and while this is the WD version, the version I had before wasn't, that one had the dedicated Recovery option available at all times, in that version, you click on recover, a file dialog pops open, you tell it which file, and done.
I didn't know it would uninstall the original version that I had, I just wanted to see what was new with the 2016 version.
I also tried some other backup programs checking to see which one is better, and, so far, this latest Acronis version is disappointing.
Where is Acronis discussing these changes that are going on anyway? I noticed you guys are Acronis MVP Volunteer, so perhaps one of you suggested they do this change? (I don't know how Acronis MVP Volunteer works).
I'll try the feedback, and maybe they will read it, but, looking at some of the other people on the forums, it doesn't look like Acronis is listening to anyone except themselves. :(

SparkyOne,
Honestly, I couldn't tell you what triggered the changes from past years in the 2015 release. My best guess is someone up the chain had a "New Coke" idea and thought simpler was better, so a lot got simplified in an effort to make the software easier to use for mainstream consumers looking for a backup application. Acronis seems to have realized that the over simplification probably wasn't quite the right direction to go so they're taking steps to improve the main product again while continuing development with Cloud features.
2015 was indeed a drastic change in interface from 2014... and 2016 has continued with the 2015 appearance, but with some added features slowly being brought back and new improvements with the Cloud interface. I think that the basic design and funcionality of the ATIH product is still as good as it ever was (backups and recovery - especially with the bare metal restore and universal deployment with offline bootable recovery media - those remain rock solid), but I also think a lot of us long time Acronis users all still hoping to see more of the older pre-2015 options coming back, albight with better implementation (bringing back solid logging is just one example I want to see again, along with overall stability improvements with the embeeded Windows Application). On the plus side, the Cloud backup is a nice feature that other products don't offer... it's still a little rough (in my opinion), but I do like having the ability for easy offsite backup redundancy and unlimited backup space in the Cloud as an added bonus to what was already available in previous ATIH versions.
Someone must be listening as I'm sure that's what stemmed the MVP program since it is supposed to be a way to funnel feature requests and updates in a more organized manner to the developers. The MVP's are just a group of regular forum users like yourself, but we have dedicated a lot of personal time in the forum helping others out and learning the product a little more than most. As a perk for our help, we get to have some direct communication and feedback with the support engineers and technicians and hope that our ideas are channeled to the developers to be implemented in future updates and releases. A lot of what is passed on through the MVP fourms is exaclty what is being asked for by users like yourself (and me too) over and over again... either what we want to see implemented, fixed, and/or brought back. We don't have any actual say in what Acronis will ultimately do with our ideas or the product, but it does seem like they are taking our suggestions pretty seriously. If that proves to be true, I think 2017 is going to be pretty awesome, but I can only speculate until we see the final product later this year.
Outside of the MVP program, please keep sumbitting feedback through the application as well. The more of the same requests that get sent through it, the more likely the developers are going to recognize the need/want from Acronis users and hopefully implement those changes too.
